Sometimes the reaction feels bigger than the moment.
A delayed reply creates anxiety.
A small disagreement feels like rejection.
A change in someone’s tone makes you question everything.
You may call yourself sensitive or dramatic. But your nervous system may be responding not only to what is happening now, but also to what happened before.
Old emotional pain does not always return as a memory. Sometimes it returns as fear, overthinking, defensiveness, people-pleasing or the urge to withdraw.
Before judging your reaction, pause and ask:
**What is this reaction trying to protect me from?**
That question can move you from self-criticism to self-understanding.
Healing is not denying your reaction.
It is learning to recognise what belongs to the present—and what is an echo from the past.
Save this for the next time your reaction feels bigger than the moment.
