We at SCN love what is now classed as the vintage classics in the cycling world the real steel bikes.

Steel is the most traditional of bike materials, it has a long and distinguished career in cycling. Steel was the material of choice in the first ever Tour de France in 1908 and since has earned its place in the world of cycling.

Although since other materials may have stolen its limelight, there are many people for whom a steel bike is the dream bike.

The ride quality is still to this day unmatched, the balance of stiffness, comfort and liveliness is truly one of a kind that no other can offer but steel.

Steel bikes require a very individual demand of the rider’s strenght to fulfil its cycling joys. Those who ride or have ridden a steel bike would no doubt know the mental and physical demands needed to get it rolling.

A true test of determination, will power and inner strength both in mind and body. We salute all those past, current and future steel riders.

Good Morning,

We hope you are all doing well.

It’s rare to see a cyclist riding without a cycle computer on their handlebars these days. However, all units are not created equal.

They offer a great way of collection data of your ride activity for example: speed, distance, time and elevation etc

Do you use a cycle computer if so which one do you use?

When the Odds are against you but you do not let that stop you from the joys of cycling. We all ought to seek inspiration from his story.

Jagwinder Singh was born without arms but he cycles some 50 to 80 kilometres a day. That’s quite a feat for the 27 year-old who was born in a small village called Patran near Patiala, Punjab.

A mindset of a true warrior in Chardi Kalaa (Eternal Optimism).

Justin Williams decided things had to change. He loved cycling but it hadn't loved him back. It was time to do things his way.

Inspirational cycling quote:

“Your bike is discovery; your bike is freedom. It doesn't matter where you are, when you're on the saddle, you're taken away.” - Doug Donaldson

What inspires you to get on the saddle and pedal away?

The end of Summer time means an hour less light in the evenings. However you’ll gain an hour in the morning. If you like long rides, set your alarm to get up early at the weekend.

The temperatures are dropping, wearing a few thin layers will help keep body tempriture warm and the cold out. Often it is not as cold as you think, so be sure not to over do it as this will have you stop mid ride and take off the extra clothing.

SCN Autumn Tips:

* Arm Sleeves
* Front & Rare Lights
* Mud Guard
* Gloves
* High Vis Rain/wind jacket
* Spare tubes, pump & tyre leavers

One of the greatest things about cycling is how easy and simple it is. Keep it like that. Make the most of the autumn colours and the frosty mornings when the roads are quiet.

As always enjoy cycling safely and take in the beautiful this season has to offer.
