Last night saw our finals night of the Cassagh Darts League and what a night it was!
The very competitive B final was our first game on the big stage between Philip Tompkins and Matty Flynn, both players showed that they could be a match for anyone in the league with a very high quality game but ultimately it was Philip who emerged as the B finals champion with a very impressive display, well done to Philip on a great win and commiserations too Matty on a great run too the final!
Onto the main event and after some great group games and some excellent quarter finals our first semi final was between our current league champion Paul Delaney and John Wickham although Paul prevailed 4-0 it was alot closer than the scoreline suggested, the second semi final was fought out between PJ Byrne and Jason Cullen with PJ winning 4-1 in a game which both players were hitting trebles for sport.
With the two finalists playing well all night the stage was set for the grand final, both players came firing out of the blocks but it was PJ who just came out on top 5-3 in a game where both players showed there class, i dont think anyone will deny PJ being the new Cassagh Darts champion as he is just a class act on and off the board, well done PJ on a brilliant display of darts all night π Paul although he came out on the wrong side of the final will be happy on a great year which seen him finish top of the league standings again for the second year in a row so well done again!
Another award handed out last night was to our most improved player and although he wasnt there to receive it the committee picked Tommy Byrne out to be the one who we agreed to be the recipient of the award (if your reading this Tommy well done) well deserved!
Thanks again too everyone who donated prizes in our raffle, to Tom Bradley and Liz Byrne who helped with marking and calling on the night its much appreciated lads so cheers.
We only mentioned it a billion times last night but thank you too you the players who make this league what it is, to Alan and Rachel for the use of the venue and sponsorship over the year, also to Brian Walsh and Dick Stafford for there sponsorship and help over the year thanks so much π to the committee for making sure we maximised everything we could to make the league a success, to Joe for supplying us with a darts room we can all be proud of and doing alot of unseen dirty work thanks a million and finally to Paul for the great effort put in to make some programmes, make sure all the paperwork was always in check while still competing at a great level himself. I'm sure everyone will join me is saying a huge thank you and well done to Niall Bradley who has ran every Wednesday night faultlessly and ran our finals night to perfection once again on Saturday night. Without Niall this league would not have ever happened and honestly I don't think it could continue without him, with the time and effort he puts in and the help he gives in every task thats required to keep the league running. He might claim that he has all the easy jobs but that's not the reality. All his hard work doesn't go unnoticed, especially this year which has definitely been harder on him not being able to throw in the league himself. We all hope that Niall can return to the oche next year as we all know he is a force when he's throwin and can beat anyone on his day.
Do it all again next year ? π
Thats the plan anyway..... but until then!
Stay healthy everyone and a very Happy Christmas to you all π
