HISTORICAL TALK: DARRARA BRANCH

Venue: Darrara Community Centre
Date: Thursday August 27th at 8pm.

Darrara Co-op branch is celebrating its centenary year in 2026, having opened just one year after the Co-op was founded. The Darrara farmers were the first to join their Barryroe counterparts with a separating station opening there in 1926.

To mark the centenary of the branch opening, we are having a talk. Our guest speakers will include:

• Diarmuid Kingston, local historian and author, who is a former Co-op milk supplier and Co-op board member.

• Philip O’Regan who is a former deputy editor and digital editor of the Southern Star newspaper. Philip has an MA in Local History and wrote The History of Barryroe Co-op last year.

We will also have other local contributors. Refreshments afterwards, all are welcome.

Well done to Kevin Fleming and Family of Bouncing Bears who donated all of the proceeds gathered at Barryroe Show this year to Marymount.

Prize Funds are now available to all Prize Winners following our 68th Annual Barryroe Show.

Prize Funds for the Indoor Exhibits, including the Junior and Primary School Sections are now available to collect from Lislevane Post Office.

Please note any Arts and Crafts that remained in the Indoor Exhibit Hall after the show were dropped to Barryroe National School on show evening.

At Barryroe Show: Launching our Co-op's farm solar programme were Co-op agri-operations manager, Jerry O'Brien, and head agri-advisor, David Walsh, with Darragh Walsh (centre). Darragh is one of our main contractors for solar project design, management, and installation, see our Farm Solar Programme brochure at any of our branches, or in this months newsletter. Darragh brings many years of experience with solar, both from Australia and Ireland.
