The European Commission’s proposal to restrict lead in ammunition under the EU REACH Regulation remains under discussion among EU Member States.
Following concerns raised by several Member States regarding the practical, economic, geopolitical, and logistical implications of the proposal, the Commission has introduced important changes:
🔹 The proposed transition period for the use of lead shot in hunting with shotguns has been extended from 5 years to 7 years.
🔹 Lead slugs have been removed from the scope of the proposed restriction.
Discussions between Member States and the European Commission are continuing, and it remains unclear when the proposal will be put to a vote. Further revisions cannot be excluded.
This remains one of the most significant regulatory files affecting Europe’s 7 million hunters and the wider hunting and shooting sector.
FACE continues to closely monitor developments and advocate for practical, evidence-based solutions that take account of conservation objectives, safety considerations, and the realities faced by hunters and shooters across Europe.

NARGC Intercounty Clay Target Championships 2026 or as we tend to call it------"The National shoot" will take place at The National Shooting Centre, Esker from Friday 10th July to Sunday 12th July 2026. That is a little over 7 weeks away and many clubs/counties are in the middle of their qualifiers.

The National Shoot is great weekend of clay target shooting, county pride, friendly competition, and sportsmanship, bringing together teams from across the Regional Game Councils.

With a full fun packed program which will include trade stands, shoot simulator and pool shoots it promises to be an excellent event.

📢 NARGC Óige Training Day – Harbour House Sports Club

NARGC Óige will host a fun, safe and friendly introduction to shooting sports on Sunday, July 26th at Harbour House Sports Club.

This training day is open to NARGC members only and is aimed at novice and beginner shooters aged 14–19 who would like to gain more experience in a safe, welcoming and supportive environment.

Participants will receive:

✅ 25 shots from a shotgun firing at clay pigeons, static and moving steel plates
✅ 25 shots on a .22 rimfire 50m benchrest range
✅ Guidance and support from Harbour House and NARGC staff throughout the day

📍 Venue: Harbour House Sports Club
🕙 Arrive at: 10am
💶 Cost: €25

Fi****ms can be provided, or participants may bring their own firearm.

This is a fun, non-competitive day suited to complete beginners and novice shots looking to build confidence, improve skills and enjoy shooting sports in a safe and friendly learning environment.
