Our U14 hurlers were on the road Wednesday night away to Cloughduv in the championship. We were up against the favourites for the competition and a very strong team in Cloughduv. We started well and were 3 a piece after 10mins; hurling ok. But in a short spell they took control and scored a few goals mid way in 1st half to take control.
The second half with a few changes the lads got stuck right in and hurled superbly, not giving Cloughduv time to settle and started putting pressure on their defence. The lads really were superb in the second half. Overall a good performance Losing 3.15 to 2.06 but to a very strong Cloughduv side. There were great performances from Tommy Farley, Eoin o Donoghue in the middle, third in the banks Jack Lynch was solid with Darragh Cronin in the forwards. Tyler o sullivan also worked hard with Finbarr o Shea as forwards. There has been visible improvement week to week with this fine young squad.

The St. Colum’s U7s made the trip to Enniskeane today for a fantastic football blitz, with eight of our young stars taking part in their very first blitz for the club.

The boys represented St. Colum’s brilliantly, showing great enthusiasm and teamwork throughout the day. They worked incredibly hard in every game and displayed some excellent football skills, with plenty of great catches, kicks, handpasses and scores on show.

The team enjoyed games against Valley Rovers, Bandon, Kilmurry, Bantry, Clonakilty and Sam Maguires, had great fun and gained valuable experience.

A huge well done to all the players, thanks to all the coaches and helpers, and to the parents for their support and encouragement throughout the day.

The future is bright for St. Colum’s! ⚫️🟠

Division 2 Hurling Championship: St. Colum's 9-04 vs Ahan Gaels 1-07

St. Colum's got their championship campaign back on track with a strong home win in Kealkill last evening, played out in heavy rain and a squally wind that only got tougher as the pitch cut up. Both sides deserve credit for turning up and going at it in those conditions.

Coming off a defeat in their opening round, the lads knew the level required in this grade and that there are no easy games. Ahan Gaels settled first and opened the scoring, but St. Colum's answered in style with a cracking goal to get up and running. Ahan Gaels hit back to row into the lead, but St. Colum's got to grips with the conditions, kept the ball moving and fired quick ball into the forwards, who turned that supply into scores. They took the game to Ahan Gaels and went in at the break in front.

The second half was every bit as frantic, with both teams producing some fine hurling for the conditions and neither side backing down. St. Colum's found their rhythm and began to pull clear, with excellent goals and points from Sean D O’Sullivan, Liam O’Sullivan and Finbarr O’Shea. The midfield pairing of Tommy Farley and Eoin O’Donoghue worked hard throughout and gave the team a real platform.

Player of the Match was Nathan Meaney at centre back, immense from start to finish, patrolling his line, delivering quality ball to the forwards and shutting down the Ahan Gaels attack.

A great team and panel performance, with every player doing his bit for the team and the club. This squad has a never-give-up attitude and it was a thoroughly deserved win. They’re back in action away next Wednesday.

A big thank you to all the supporters who braved the weather 🟠⚫️🌧☔️

As the Junior and Leaving Certificate exams begin today, everyone at St. Colum’s GAA Club would like to wish the very best of luck to all our members and young people throughout the wider community.

You've worked hard to get here so give it your best effort, but remember this too; an exam does not define who you are. It doesn't measure your character, your kindness, your resilience, your talents, or the contribution you make to your family, friends, team and community.

In sport, we learn that success isn't determined by one match, one score, or one moment. Life is much the same. There are many paths to success, many opportunities ahead, and many ways to achieve your goals.

Good luck everyone!

St. Colum's GAA U14 Hurling - Div. 2 Championship

Last Friday evening, our U14 hurlers made the trip to Newcestown for their Div 2 Championship opener and were treated to one of those evenings that reminds you why you love this game. A superb pitch, a warm Friday evening and two teams that came to hurl.

This was always going to be a tough ask. Newcestown are a strong side at this grade and they showed us why. But make no mistake - our lads were very much in this game. The opening 10 minutes were frantic and full of quality and for a good stretch of the first half, St. Colum's were in front. Newcestown didn’t panic. They stayed composed, upped their game, found a goal and nudged ahead to lead by 2 pts at the break.

The second half was a difficult one. Two further Newcestown goals proved the difference and they ran out deserving winners on the night.

Final score:
Newcestown 3-14
St. Colum's 1-9

What we’re most proud of is the attitude. Not once did these lads drop their heads. They kept playing, kept working, kept competing until the final whistle. That character matters more than a scoreboard.

Jack Lynch, Nathan Meaney, Dylan Crews and Tyler O’Sullivan were outstanding on the night and put in incredible shifts from start to finish. Every single player can hold their heads high.

Onwards we go! 🟠⚫️

It's always nice to hear stories of former players using their skills acquired at St. Colum’s GAA as they now travel the world.

This is Thomas Keaveney who recently added a North Asian medal for gaelic football to his West Cork medals at the North Asian games in Guangzhou, China.

Well done Thomas! 🟠⚫️
