πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ Annual Club Weekend Away – Achill Island! πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ

What a fantastic weekend we had on our annual club spin away, this year heading for the beautiful Achill Island! πŸŒŠβ˜€οΈ

We were incredibly lucky with the weather – almost no wind, dry roads and a very pleasant 20 degrees. Not bad at all for a weekend in Ireland! πŸ˜„

Our route took us from Achill towards Mulranny and back along the stunning coast road, before looping back into Achill. Along the way, we took in the spectacular Ashleam White Cliffs, before making our way towards Keel and then tackling the road down to the very bottom πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ of Keem Beach… and of course, the dreaded journey back up again! 😭πŸ₯΅

From there, we continued on towards Dooagh before making our way back to Achill Sound. By that stage, the sight of the White Bridge welcoming us back into Achill Island was certainly a very welcome one! πŸ˜…πŸ™Œ

We had an absolutely brilliant time exploring this beautiful part of the country. Plenty of laughs, teamwork, coffee and pastries along the way – and of course, some unforgettable cycling! β˜•πŸ₯πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

A fantastic weekend away 😎

Streamstown Cycling Club would like to wish our own Colin Clavin the
very best of luck as he travels to Japan to represent Ireland at the 2026
UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.
This year's championships take place in Niseko, Hokkaido, from 26-30
August, marking the first time the event has been staged in Asia.
Colin will compete in the 15km Individual Time Trial on Thursday, 27
August, and also the Road Race on Sunday, 30 August, where riders from
around the world will battle for the coveted rainbow jersey.
Colin earned his place at the World Championships as the reigning Irish
Masters Time Trial Champion, having claimed the national title in 2025.
He heads to Japan in excellent form. Most recently, Colin finished an
impressive 3rd overall at the Ulster 10-mile (16km) Time Trial
Championship, recording an average speed of approximately 49.9km/h
against some of the strongest time trial riders in the country.
Colin will be part of a strong Irish contingent including Paul Kennedy and
John Madden. Kennedy, a former UCI Gran Fondo World Time Trial
Champion, will compete in the M45-49 category, while Madden returns
to the Worlds after taking a superb bronze medal in the M60-64 time trial
at the 2025 Championships in Australia.
It is a fantastic achievement to once again have a Streamstown Cycling
Club rider competing on the world stage.
Everyone at Streamstown Cycling Club wishes Colin, Paul and John the
very best of luck in Japan.

What a day!

A great day cycling today, plenty of wind though.
What started off as a puncture turned into a blow out but we all made it back to Jackie’s for some much needed coffee and cake. 😎
