U12C

Villa 5 - 1 Stradbally

A tough away day for the u12s on the opening day of the season earlier today. It wasn't long into the game before the home side got off the mark and quickly made it two nil before to long more. We found it hard to come to terms with the quicker reactions required against a well organised Villa team. 3 down at the break we were eager to get going again. Our corner routine paid off when Luke found Odran who finished to the net to get us 1 back. Our concentration dropped again and cost us a further 2 goals. Thanks to Villa for hosting us and we wish them well for the season, thanks also to all for getting the players to the game. Plenty for us to work on in training wednesday at 6.30pm.

U14B result

Park Rangers 0 - 2 Stradbally

Our Under 14 team played their second game in three days this afternoon when we travelled to Park Rangers. Unlike the previous game, which produced 12 goals, this was a much more cagey affair that was stalemate at halftime.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first half and chances were limited to a few shots from distance with both defences on top.

In the second half, we started to play some good football with a lot of the play in the opposition half. We were finally rewarded when Kevin Og Coffey hit a shot from outside the box to give us the lead. This was followed by a second goal a few minutes later when Dan Walsh controlled the ball in the box and fired home to give us a two nil lead.

There were further chances for both sides but we finished the game out without conceding. It gave us a two nil victory and three more points.
Well done to all the lads involved today who fought hard for a well-deserved win.

U14B result

Kilmacow 4 - 8 Stradbally

Our Under 14 team started their league campaign when they travelled to Kilmacow for a game that could have been 10 goals apiece, we won by 8 goals to 4!!
As the scoreline suggests, both teams played some very good attacking football resulting in many chances being converted.
At half time, we led by five goals to one. A sixth seemed to put us in pole position but Kilmacow pulled three goals back to put us under pressure. The lads battled well and pulled clear towards the end.
In an excellent team performance, our scorers were Dan Walsh, two for Kevin Og Coffey, two for Alex Kirwan and Donncha Power took home the match ball with his hat trick.
Next up is away to Park Rangers this Saturday.

All at Stradbally FC are saddened and shocked at the sudden passing of Brendan Breen. Brendan played a big part in the local community and was heavily involved with Stradbally GAA especially their juvenile club helping them to great success throughout the years.

Brendan’s son Aidan, has been an integral part of our current u17 squad over the years which Brendan was so proud to watch him achieve success with.
Most of this u17 team were coached by Brendan within Stradbally GAA over the years and his passing will be a great loss to them.

On behalf of the club, u17 coaches and team mates, we wish to offer our deepest sympathy to Aidan, his mother Cathy and sisters Grace and Roisin.

Well done to our current u12c squad on securing the u11e league last season. The players were presented with their medals this evening. Missing from the photo and very important players for us during the season were: Andrew Mckeown, Fionnan Ronayne, Lorcan Power, Tadgh Walsh, Nicolas Engel & Lewie Fan.

We hosted Piltown in our penultimate league game knowing a win would seal the title.
Sean returned after a long injury with Jack returning from his fantastic athletics journey.
We were missing Andrew Whois away, Jp & Niall to u16 GAA duty and Cian due to injury.

We were strong from the off and took control with Jack pressing down the left and testing the defence & after only 4 mins Jack crossed a low ball for Aidan to tap home inside the box. On 20 mins Aidan laid a ball on for Ben waiting at the rear post to make it 2. Just before half time Jack made it 3 from Aidans assist.

Half time 3-0
The second half we started where we left off with no changes. While we had numerous chances, Piltown were grafting and starting to play really good football. We had a couple of scares but our defence and Paddy who was on keeper duty tonight kept them at bay.
On 63mins Jack crossed a great ball on to Sean at the edge of the box for him to make it 4.
Captain Ben got his 2nd when he made a great run into the box to be fouled where he scored the resulting penalty. Our youngest player on the field Fionn Murphy nearly made it six when his fine header was saved.
Final score 5-0.

The boys sealed the title with an impressive performance at home tonight and look forward to their last league game at home to Waterford Crystal.

A big thanks to Piltown who played with heart and never gave up. Also thanks to the ref for a free flowing game with very little incidents.

Well done guys on a really impressive season winning all games since losing the 1st game heavily away to Villa, enjoy the celebrations.

U17C Result

Cappoquin 1 - Stradbally 3

Our u17s were back in action this morning after a 2 month summer league break, travelling up the road to Cappoquin.
With Eoin taking on goalkeeping duties due to a slight knock from GAA, Jp got his first chance outfield this season.
We started strong and pushed hard creating lots of chances. We went ahead when Niall beat the keeper after a neat pass by Fionn Moynihan. We kept pressing keeping their chances to a minimum with our hard working defence. Half time 0-1.

The second half we looked to continue our pace, but the heat was catching up with us and Cappoquin started playing really good football. They were rewarded when we lost concentration allowing them to equalise. We regained our composure and scored 10 mins later through Paddy with Will assisting. We introduced our only sub Fionn Murphy for James who had put in a serious shift in midfield. On 87mins we sealed our victory when Niall got his 2nd from a deft layoff from JP.

Final score 1-3

Great teamwork from the boys today especially with injuries and absence’s requiring positional switches across the board.

The win coupled with Villa losing 3 pts in their match with Piltown means we are now 5 points ahead with 2 games left, both home games.
Piltown are the visitors on 23rd August, please come along to support the boys in their quest for league glory.
