Stradbally 4 - Villa 2

Goals: Paddy Cotter, Jack Casey, Cian Coleman, Aidan Breen

Tonight we welcomed league leaders Villa to Church Road for a top of the table clash.
We were boosted by the return of Eoin, Jack & Aidan, back for the first time this season from their great season at county minor football.
We started strong and deservely went ahead when Paddy struck a beauty from 35 yards out and lobbed their keeper. We kept pressing and were unlucky not to be ahead by more at the break.
We talked at half time about keeping them out and not letting them play, and introduced Jack & Aidan. To villas credit they came hard at us and got one back with a great goal themselves. We then went ahead again when Jack broke down the right to finish near post. Again Villa came back just as strong and levelled when we switched off at the back.
The lads knew there was something for them and kept the pressure up with Cian putting us ahead for the 3rd time with a close range tap in. We survived another Villa attack and broke free with Aidan finding the net to make it 4 on the final whistle.

Cracking game with both sides pushing each other hard. The win lifts us to the top of the league by 2pts with 3 games left to play.
Unreal stuff from the lads and rightly deserve to be on top after winning 6 in a row from the 7 games played so far.

Thanks to Villa for a great game and credit to the ref for a well managed game.

Red Star 1 - 5 Stradbally

We made the trip to the Williamstown complex this evening to take on Red Star in the blistering heat. And it was Stradbally who were fast out of the traps when Martin Coffey blasted home inside five mins. Just before the welcome water break Rodrigo had us two up after another well taken goal. Ronaldo wasn’t to be outdone by his brother and made it 3-0 just before half time.

Red Star, to their credit began the second half well and deservedly got on the scoresheet. Aaron Jennings wrapped the game up with a quick brace with ten mins left to see us run out comfortable winners.

Well done to team and management and thanks to Red Star for a good honest game of ball.

Waterford Crystal 0 - 2 Stradbally

Goals: Ben Kirwan & Adam Raher

Our u17s travelled to Crystal Park today hoping to continue our winning streak. We knew it was going to be a tight close affair as Crystal always prove tough opposition.
Both sides started equally and shared most of the chances. We finally found a way through their solid defence when Paddy worked the ball up the right and a quick layup from Will found Ben on the edge of the box who dribbled past 2 players and struck it low into the corner.
Halftime 0-1
Second half Crystal really came at us and we survived a few early scares when they hit the crossbar on one occasion. We made some positional changes which really helped and started carving out chances. When a high ball fell to Adam around 35yards out he composed himself to strike it perfectly lobbing the keeper to make it 2.
The lads worked hard until the end making sure of another win & clean sheet, which puts us at the top of the table for the time being until Villa get their 3 points from the match vs withdrawn Hibs.
Special mention to Will today who ran his socks off and got stuck into every challenge.

Thanks to Crystal for a very challenging game which could have went either way before our 2nd. Thanks to ref for free flowing game.

Next up Villa at home in 2 weeks

U13B Cup Result

Stradbally 1 - 4 Piltown

Our Under 13 team played their final game of the season yesterday playing host to Piltown in the cup. Our visitors were favourites after claiming the league title the previous week but we matched them in the opening fifteen minutes. However, two quick goals put us chasing the game. We pulled one goal back before half time with a goal from Aidan Lawlor and it looked as if we were back in the game.
Unfortunately a goal early in the second half had us trailing again by two. We pushed forward towards the end in an attempt to rescue the game but got caught on the counterattack and Piltown ran out 4 1 victors.
The lads gave their all just like they have all season and overall they can be very proud of themselves.
It was our first season in the B league and to finish mid table is a very good achievement.
We look forward to seeing everyone back when we resume in a couple of months.

Thanks to our team sponsor Shane Lannon Carpentry

Stradbally 2 - 2 Johnville

Our fourth division team togged out three days on from their 11 goal thriller to take on Johnville who had won three from three league games. Stradbally got off to a great start and had the ball in the net inside a minute through Damien. Both teams created chances throughout the first half but it was Johnville who finished the half the strongest with two well taken goals.
Second half seen Stradbally up the intensity and were rewarded with a well taken goal from Rodrigo midway through the second half. Johnville hit the inside of the post with the final kick of the game but as a whole the team deserved the second half clean sheet and came away with a well deserved point.
Well done to team and management and thank you to Johnville for a good honest game of football.

Stradbally 6 - 5 Park Rangers

Our 4th division team entertained Park Rangers this morning in what turned out to be an 11 goal thriller. Park Rangers were two goals up inside the first ten minutes. Stradbally responded well to get back on level terms inside twenty mins. It was Park Rangers who next added to the scoring with two more goals of their own either side of half time to leave it 4-2 to the away side.

The home side took more control of the second half creating plenty of chances with Kevin running them ragged at the back and we found ourselves level at 4-4 before park rangers were awarded a dubious penalty which they converted with ten minutes left. The home side kept pushing forward and were rewarded for their efforts with two late goals to take all three points.

Credit to everyone who turned out today and put in a shift. Well done to Park Rangers for an honest game of football.

Goals: Kevin x4, Damien, Rodrigo

St Joseph’s 2 - 2 Stradbally

Our Under 13 team travelled to St. Joseph's today and played out only our second draw of the season.
We played with a strong wind in the first half and had a lot of possession. Corey O Donnell was on the score sheet giving us the lead midway during the first half.
We doubled our lead before half-time when Daniel Casey got on the end of a ball and hit the back of the net.
We were unlucky not to increase our lead hitting the woodwork twice in the game.
We continued to play good football in the second half creating more chances. However our failure to convert in front of goal was punished when St. Joseph's pulled a goal back from a well taken free-kick.
Ten minutes before the end, we failed to clear a cross and St. Joseph's got their second. Both sides pushed forward seeking a winner but the game ended in a 2 2 draw. Well done to both teams for playing out a good game of football.

Piltown 3 - 2 Stradbally

Our Under 13 team travelled to Piltown this afternoon and were unlucky to lose three two to the team that will now play in the A league next season.
We took the lead in the first half when Corey O Donnell scored a brilliant free kick from outside the box, a contender for Goal of the Season.
Piltown equalised a few minutes later when a free kick was deflected into the goal. They took the lead ten minutes later and we were very unlucky to be trailing at half-time.
We started the second-half brightly and matched the home team. However, a penalty was awarded against us and the converted goal put us three one behind. However, Corey O' Connell had time for his second Goal of the Season nomination as he placed another free-kick to the top corner. The final whistle blew on the kick-off giving Piltown the three points.
Both Daniel Murphy and Kevin Og picked up injuries and we hope they are back soon. Well done to all once again.
