For anyone that had contacted me looking for Pilates classes in and around Stamullen, I believe there is going to be a class in St Pats GAA club in the near future (with another local Pilates teacher).
There is also B-well Pilates in Balbriggan, and ForeverYoung Pilates in Skerries.

I am not teaching classes at the moment as I'm heading back to study in September.
Thanks to those of you that had contacted me, be sure to keep up your practice 👍

Habits v Motivation

Nobody is motivated all of the time.
There are days when I feel like doing nothing.
But if I don't move I know I will feel rubbish, and I have formed the habit of movement being a daily thing.

Moving away from the notion of exercise being about burning off the food you've eaten or weight loss, focusing on the other benefits it brings can be a more positive approach.

I exercise because it makes me feel good, gives me energy and will help me age well. I also can't tell my kids how important it is to be active if I'm not!

I set myself a challenge to make sure I hit my 10k steps a day for a month, and here I am over 100 days later.
Small habits will build up and have a big impact.

Absolutely love this video.

Bart Kwan from Barbell Brigade is a powerlifter who tried pilates to see how he would get on.
It's a great demonstration of the fact that we need to train in lots of different ways to achieve an all round level of fitness.
No one mode of training will give you everything.

(And for anyone that has done my barre classes, you will relate to his hatred for the pulse plies at the start, I know I am hated for these too!!)

So delighted to have completed this course.
I have learned so much from it, would highly recommend to anyone that teaches any sort of movement.
Looking forward to putting this knowledge into action as we hopefully start to return to normality.

Great to set some new goals for 2021.

I've wanted to do this course for a while and decided to stop procrastinating any longer!
People tend to think of Pilates and Fitness instructors as working with people to help them change aesthetically, but there is so much more to it than that.
A bit part of our job is helping people get back to full fitness after a health challenge.
Looking forward to getting started on this!

Friday night fun with Oscar the cat!
This has been a stressful week for everyone.
Over the weekend when you look for things to do to burn off some steam, make sure and include some things that you will benefit from.
Fitness plans may have been again turned on their heads this week if you are used to going to a class or your gym is in a different county, but always try and have a plan B.

Following on from my last post, remember to do something positive for your own health and well being this week.

I had a message from someone during the week saying that they didn't know where to start, they wanted to get fitter but they felt overwhelmed about how to go about it.

My advice would be start small.
Most times people are too vague in what they want. I want to lose weight, or I want to get fit.
Those are great in theory, but you need to get specific to be able to achieve them.

Make one small change this week that will bring you closer to your goal.

Want to be more active - try and increase your daily steps so you hit 10K (or if you are already doing 10K set a goal of 12k)

Want to feel more energetic - commit to going to bed 45 mins earlier

Want to feel more hydrated - Commit to drinking 1.5-2ltrs of water every day (and be specific, fill a bottle, or set a timer to go off each hour to remind you to have a glass of water).

Start small. Small changes repeated and built upon will bring you closer to where you want to be.

Have a great week đź’Ş

With the kids heading back to school next week, life should, fingers crossed, start to get back into some sort of a routine.

It's a good time to start to have a think about what improvements you could make to your diet and exercise.
The past number of months have been a worrying time for many, and for some, the kids going back to school may be an equally worrying time.
There are many things to do with our health that we may not be able to control, but the best thing we can do to improve our chances of good health is to try and eat well, get plenty of good quality sleep, stay hydrated and get a good variety of exercise (the photo is my box of tricks for my workouts).

So while you are getting everything organised for next week for the kids going back to school, don't forget to have a plan put together for what you are going to do to look after yourself too!

If you are looking for a challenge for the week ahead while raising money for a very worthwhile charity you should check out this virtual 5k.
It's always a fantastic evening in May, and it's great to be able to support it this year even though we can't run it altogether!

Star of the Sea AC: Michelle McKiernan Virtual 5k Run.Regrettably due to CoVid 19 we have had to cancel our Annual Road Race & Fun Run taking place on May 26th around the village of Stamullen. As we donate 25% of our profits every year to the Balbriggan Cancer Support Group the committee decided that this year we would have a Virtual Run and donate all the proceeds to this worthy charity. We have set the entry fee at €5 with the option of purchasing a t-shirt & medal or making a further donation to Balbriggan Cancer Support Group or both.

Registration can be done by following this link:

https://register.primoevents.com/…/MichelleMcKiernan5kVirtu…

Ones time for the event can be posted up to and including the 26th May 2020.

The link for posting the times is:

https://www.myrunresults.com/…/michelle_mckier…/3841/results

To add a little interest to the Michelle McKiernan Virtual Run we have added a prize of €100 to fastest Athletics Ireland affiliated club team in both male and female categories. We also have 5 spot prizes for local runners. The club would like to thank Dunnes Centra, Stamullen for sponsoring the prizes for the run.

Anyone that has been to one of my classes will know that the last 5-10 mins is always spent having a little chill out and relax.
I've had a few people message me during the week and ask do I have a recording of that particular section, so I've just done a little video of it.
I was going to just send it to those who asked, but I figured maybe it might be of use to other people who wanted to take a few chill out minutes to themselves.

Much Love,

So, going one step further than my backyard 5k, I decided to set myself a new challenge.
The Duleek 10k in aid of cystic fibrosis was due to take place at the end of April, but as with so many other races it had to be cancelled.
Having done my 5k last week in the confines of the back garden, I wondered could I manage a 10k. The organisers of the Duleek 10k are asking people to run a virtual 10k so that they can still raise money for their charity.
So, I set off to run numerous laps of the back garden of my house (again, neighbours I 'd say thought I was nuts!).

Probably my slowest 10k in a long time given the amount of turning and the care that's needed not to run into something, but I have to say there was immense satisfaction when I finished it!

This is the event for anyone interested:
