Pat Whaley has been involved with Mullingar Town AFC since the mid 1980's and in his time on the committee he was assistant secretary to the late John Gallagher for many years, Pat Whaley was the manager of Mullingar Town's team in the Leinster Junior league and in 1999 Pat was a proud man when Mullingar Town won the club of the year at the awards night in Dublin. Pat Whaley also Managed a Mullingar youths team made up of players from both Mullingar Town and Mullingar Athletic and Manchester United Supporters club in Coole when they played Manchester United under 15 team in Dalton Park in front of 2 and a half thousand people on Easter Sunday in 1997 and later on in the same year in August he also managed Mullingar Town Youths team that played against Leeds United in Dalton Park, Leeds United were FA Youths Cup Champions that year and had the FA Youths Cup on display in Dalton Park. Paul Robinson and Alan Smith played that day in Dalton Park and they went on play for England at senior international level. Pat was a family man and Teresa his wife and children Brian and Ruth were proud of him, Pat was a great Manchester United Supporter and made numerous trips to Old Trafford in his life time and was well known in and around Old Trafford. Pat will be missed by all who new him and by all the players who have played under him over the years and some of those players are now on the Mullingar Town committee and others are coaching the Mullingar Town Underage teams. Pat leaves a legacy where Mullingar Town AFC is good hands going forward with people who were proud to play under him.
