We are back😁. First morning back out on our bikes as a group for such a long time but we had great crew show up. Thanks to Mary Lennon for taking our photo and hope you recover from your injury to join us soon. Some brave souls continued to Streamstown but the rest of us stuck with the shorter route to Moate for coffee and back. Lovely, slightly chilly morning for it🚲☕

New Garda Portal to Benefit Cyclists and Road Users

Cycling Ireland welcomes the introduction of Traffic Watch, a new system for reporting traffic violations online.

It is hoped that this new system will reduce the number of incidents on Irish roads by improving behaviour of all road users.

Members of the public can report non-emergency traffic-related incidents using the online form, and the incident is reviewed by Garda Staff and forwarded to Superintendent in the relevant Community Engagement Area to progress.

A member of An Garda Síochána will be appointed to investigate a Traffic Watch complaint and will make contact with the complainant to gain further information and discuss possible actions available.

Speaking about the addition of the online portal, Cycling Ireland Participation Manager Paul Norton said:
"The new Traffic Watch online portal announced by An Garda Síochána this week is a big step forward in helping to report dangerous driving, aggressive behaviour and other incidents. Road safety and the increase in incidents between people in motor vehicles and people on bicycles is a big concern for our clubs and members and all cyclists who use our road network.
“So this week's announcement is hugely welcomed by Cycling Ireland, and we will continue to advocate for initiatives and legislation that aims to protect the most vulnerable people on our roads. If you have any feedback you wish to share, please email [email protected].”

In an emergency situation members of the public should always call 999/112.

On the 4th August, 2022 our Club and Community was rocked by the devastating news that our Club Member and friend Dessie Byrne and his sister Muriel had passed away following a tragic accident whilst on holiday in Ballybunion.

On Sunday, 6th August, 2023 a number of events are being organised in the Community to raise funds for the Dessie Byrne Memorial Fund with donations also being made to Sub Aqua and Ballybunion Search and Rescue.

Lecarrow Lazers are inviting all Cyclists and Cycling Clubs to make St. Johns Community Centre, Lecarrow your food stop on your Sunday cycle. Please drop into St. Johns Community Centre between 9am and 12 midday for tea and cakes and donate towards this worthy cause. All support and donations are much appreciated.
