Laois Masters 2-12 Westmeath Masters 1-7
Emo GAA Ground

If there were ever lungs left on the pitch, Laois Masters borrowed them for this one. Nip and tuck for 60 minutes as Westmeath stuck right at 1-7 and refused to go away. Laois had to dig out the old legs and find the scores when it mattered most to close it 2-12.

Laois scorers: Rory Hurley 0-05, Paul Lawler 1-02 from the middle like he’s 21 again, Lee Murphy 1-01 including a penalty he struck with the confidence of a man who never missed one in training, James Doogue 0-02, Peter Branagan 0-01, Bobby Doyle 0-01.

Paddy Mac at full back was built like the Rock of Dunamase β€” Westmeath came in waves and he just kept turning them away. Rory Hurley up front was taking points under pressure like it was a Sunday morning kickabout.

Top game, sportsmanship after the whistle, and zero hamstrings pulled… that we know of. Big thanks to Emo GAA for the pitch and for pretending not to notice the mileage on some of these lads πŸ’š

On Friday 4th July 2025, our good friend and former team mate Catriona McGahan was involved in an accident whilst on holiday in France that has left her with life-altering injuries.

Catriona was flown by French Air Ambulance from the accident to a hospital in Marseille and then transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital and Musgrave Park Hospital, Belfast. Catriona is now home, continuing to work on her rehabilitation.

The extent of the physical injuries has meant Catriona has many adjustments to make to get on with daily life. She requires home modification and extensive therapy.

Catriona has worn the jerseys of Oonagh Celts LGFC, Killeeshil GFC, Tyrone LGFA, Ulster LGFA, University of Ulster GFC, Parnells GFC, London LGFA as well as Central Coast GAA in Australia. Catriona also played for Ireland in the inaugural Compromise Rules test v Austraila in 2024.

As a player, she was a great team mate and a fair, honest and hard opponent. Catriona gave everything she had for her teams and her team mates. Her football talent and dedication and her spirit, kindness and warm personality has ensured she is literally known throughout the world! We know that in times of adversity, Catriona would be the first one to help in any way she could. This is our time to step up and support her and her family.

We, her ladies football team mates and friends, are calling for support for her at this difficult time.

Monies raised will be used to support Catriona in her rehabiliation and recovery.

On Saturday 18th April 2026, we are hosting a Wheelchair Football tournament in Galbally Community Centre Co. Tyrone. We are calling on you all to enter a team. Entry is Β£200 (suggested minimum donation) for teams of 5 - 7 people. All equipment is provided.

For your money, you get:
- To support Catriona
- Enjoy a few games of Wheelchair Football
- Develop an understanding of the challenges faced by wheelchair users
- Plenty of laughs and craic
- A positive day, connecting with friends, family, teammates and opponents
- Tea by the bucketful
- Bar facilities available
- Live music that evening

The Boots Aren’t Retired Yet! 🏐
Remember the smell of deep heat, the buzz of a local derby, and that feeling of a perfect point from the 45? (21πŸ˜‰)

Those days don't have to be just "stories for the pub."

If you’re hitting the 40 mark this year, Laois wants YOU. We’re recruiting for the Laois Masters 2026 season. It’s the same passion and the same pride, just with a little more tactical "pacing ourselves" and a lot more craic.

Don’t let the boots gather dust. Come back for the camaraderie, the fitness, and the chance to wear the blue and white again.
