Today I was doing some research into eagles rock Hillclimb in advance of the event on 18 July.

I found out the following interesting facts.

It first ran at this venue on 12
July 1969, having moved from its previous location in Downhill.

It was won on the day by Brian Kelly in a formula ford with a time of 62.7 secs

Second overall was Bangor man Jim McClements in his Riley elf. Jim set a 63.4 sec climb to finish fastest saloon /tin top.

They also ran motorbikes as part of the event and the fastest motorbike was A Mayers on his 250cc Bultaco! Imagine doing eagles rock on a modern superbike nowadays!!!!!

When conceived this Hillclimb used to start in the area of the hairpin making it a 1.2 mile course.

It was then Extended in length by moving the startline further down the hill to its current location.

The fastest person recorded up the hill is Robert Morgan with an outright record of 61.16secs set way back in 2002 when Robert drove his Pilbeam.

John Donnelly was the last person to win this event in 2022 with a 66.9sec run

Interestingly in 2022 second place overall was also the fastest tin top on the day and this was Roger Gage in his Peugeot 205 with a 67.95sec run!!

At least 1 competitor who competed in the first event still has a competition car and occasionally does the odd hill in his single seater!! Any ideas who this may be???

🛺🛺🛺Well, the count downs finally on with less than 4 weeks until the return of Eagles rock Hillclimb🛺🛺🛺

🔧🔧🔧This is the perfect day to get out and get the car prepared for the race to Binevenagh Forest 🔧🔧🔧

🎟️🎟️🎟️🎟️Entries are coming in which is great to see and there’s still some space for anyone who wishes to have a go. 🎟️🎟️🎟️🎟️

🚩🚩🚩North Ulster Car Club are planning to make this the event of the year and with a very big focus on its competitors and maximising their days craic 🚩🚩🚩

🚗🚗🚗this is a superb hill which offers everything a driver looks for in a hill, fast sections, flowing bends and technical elements too.🚗🚗🚗

🏵️🏵️🏵️ also the only hill in Northern Ireland which has a link road from the finish line back to the paddock to save hanging about at the top of the hill all day. It also means that the event flows well too 🏵️🏵️🏵️
