Mulroy Celtic U12s 0 v Lagan Harps Colts U12s 4
Lagan Harps Colts produced an excellent all-round team performance to record a well-deserved victory over Mulroy Celtic.
The visitors got off to the perfect start, taking the lead after just three minutes. Ronan spotted Carter's run and played a superb through ball into his path. Carter took an excellent first touch before confidently firing into the top corner from 15 yards.
Mulroy responded well and enjoyed spells of possession, but the Harps midfield pairing of Ronan and Carter worked tirelessly and helped create several more opportunities. Aron and Callum both came close, forcing a number of fine saves from the Mulroy goalkeeper. At the other end, Jamie, Caolan and Caoimhe were outstanding in defence, dealing confidently with everything that came their way.
Harps doubled their advantage on 23 minutes following a superb team move. Cooper delivered an excellent cross into the box where Aron controlled brilliantly before finishing clinically with his second touch to make it 2-0.
Just before the break, goalkeeper Matthew produced a superb low save to deny Mulroy from a breakaway and preserve the two-goal lead heading into half-time.
The Colts started the second half with the same energy and determination. Callum continued to provide a great outlet on the wing and was unlucky not to be rewarded when a flowing move narrowly missed Ronan arriving at the back post.
Ronan then split the defence with another excellent pass to find his brother Aron, but this time his effort drifted narrowly wide. Shortly afterwards, a clever quick corner from Cooper found Caoimhe 20 yards from goal, but her powerful strike was blocked on the line.
The game was put beyond doubt with two goals from Cooper. His first arrived on 50 minutes after another excellent pass from Carter, with Cooper applying a composed finish. Six minutes later, James was unlucky to see an effort cleared off the line, but the ball was worked back to Carter, who squared for Cooper to drive home his second goal of the game.
Dylan and James both made strong contributions from the bench, bringing plenty of energy and commitment as Harps saw out the game comfortably.
This was a terrific team performance from start to finish. Matthew was dependable in goal, while Jamie, Caoimhe and Caolan were rock-solid in defence. Carter, Ronan, Callum and Cooper worked tirelessly in midfield, and Aron led the line superbly, deservedly getting on the scoresheet with a brilliantly taken goal. Dylan and James also impressed after being introduced.
Many thanks to Mulroy Celtic for a sporting game, and best wishes to them for the remainder of the season.
A special mention also goes to referee Dessie McLaughlin, who officiated the match excellently and allowed the game to flow throughout.
