😔
Did you know that by the age of just 5, girls start doubting themselves?
Read that again.
By the age of JUST 5-years old.
And by the time they're teenagers, just 11% of Irish girls are getting the recommended levels of physical activity while 87% report low self-esteem. That's amongst the lowest levels globally.
By 20, half of all young women in Ireland have left sport entirely.
These numbers aren't separate problems. They are the same problem playing out over a lifetime.
This doesn't happen because of some mysterious force. It happens because we have built a society where girls and women believe that sport isn't for them.
Her Sport Foundation exists because this IS preventable.
We go into schools and work with girls directly, tackling the real reasons they leave sport. We give them the tools to stay, and give the adults around them the knowledge to build environments where they actually thrive.
We push for the policy changes that sound small but aren't. Lights in parks. Proper changing facilities. Equal access to pitches. Funding that reaches the schools and clubs that need it most. Because a girl can't stay in sport if the infrastructure was never built for her.
We fund athletes, schools and sports clubs who are doing it with nothing. We sit in the rooms where decisions get made and make sure girls in sport are part of the conversation.
This year, 50 of our runners are taking on the VHI Mini Marathon to raise funds that go directly into this work. Every single cent.

Because the girl who stays in sport at 14 is more likely to lead at 40. And she deserves every chance to get there.
