Had to share this from . As GAA coaches at times we think we are developing those younger players by letting them dominate training. We're actually setting them up for failure because what looks like talent is often just a physically more mature youngster and pretty soon all their peers will get near that level. Their toolbox for solving problems in the game become more redundant as they get older because we never provided opportunities to expand it.

How do we try to replicate match level intensity in training? Try this game in your next session. Ideal for anything from 5v5 up to 8v8 max. Use one goal or two.

Breaks between games should be short and sharp and provide opportunities for coaches and players to set simple targets. Ideally we'll guide the players towards the vital info based on what we observe. Eventually we want them to take ownership of it. These simple targets should serve to focus their attention on the most important things we're trying to work on.
An excellent exercise is to get someone to time how long you speak for between games. It is always way longer than you think!!!
