Judo Ireland

Judo Ireland We are a new democratic organisation based all around Ireland to promote the sport of judo. Bringing the sport to new areas in both rural and urban centres.

The emphasis will be on defining core objectives, identifying short, medium and long-term goals and developing action plans to achieve these goals. This will be done by building judo from the bottom up by:

Getting more young people involved in judo at clubs, schools and colleges. By working with a team of professional paid coaches, semi-professional and voluntary coaches. We aim to work with othe

r national governing bodies where we have common objectives. We aim to get our best coaches coaching all over the country and not just confine them to elite players. We aim to promote Easter and summer training camps. We aim to build a national centre.

Vision Sports Ireland is currently setting up a tandem loan programme. The plan is to lent a tandem to people who would like to try tandem cycling for a maximum period of three months. If you have a tandem or know of tandems that are not being used, please consider donating them to Vision Sports Ireland and we will make good use of them.

A big thank you to Alex Whelan,Roger,Whelan, Robbie Clancy, John Malone and Brendan Gannon who have decided to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds, so our own Paul Geoghegan can continue his training and ultimately reach his goal of representing Team Ireland in the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.

Alex, Roger and Brendan stopped by Pauls local Dojo, St. Josephs Judo Club on Tuesday. They can be seen below on the Tatami alongside Paul Geoghegan, His coaches Colin Kiernan and Lukas Stasaitis and Vision Sports Ireland's National Sports Co-ordinator and former Judo Paralympian Rahim Nazarali.

The Money raised by this Group will help fund Pauls training, his flights and accommodation at competitions around the world and will help provide him with all of the equipment required to take part in the international tournaments in this Paralympic cycle.

Judo Ireland, Vision Sports Ireland plus all of their members would like to wish Alex and the rest of the guys the very best of luck with the training and are looking forward to many more meetings before the Climb takes place on the 3rd of October this year. We also look forward to continuing to work so closely with Vision Sports Ireland and hope that Pauls dream will encourage not only boys and girls but also men and women whom are visually impaired to take up the sport of judo.
