The entire Rás Mumhan family is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Shane O’Brien, a young cyclist whose talent, determination and love for the sport left a lasting impression on all who met him.
At just 16 years of age, Shane O Brien was one of the youngest riders ever to take part in the Dornan Rás Mumhan, a remarkable achievement that reflected both his courage and ability. To line out among experienced riders at such a young age spoke volumes about the promise he possessed and the future that undoubtedly lay ahead of him.
Those who saw Shane ride during this year’s event witnessed a young man chasing his dreams with enthusiasm, humility and a smile. He represented the very best of what our sport stands for, commitment, respect and a willingness to challenge himself.
Today, the thoughts of the entire Rás Mumhan family are with Shane’s parents, family, friends, teammates and all who knew and loved him. His loss will be felt not only by those closest to him but throughout the wider cycling community.
Though his time with us was far too short, Shane’s memory will live on in the roads he raced, the friendships he made and the inspiration he gave to other young riders who aspire to follow in his wheels.
Rest in peace, Shane. You will always be part of Rás Mumhan .
