Martin Desgrandchamps and Shay Kelleher were back on the slopes this week at the IMRA Galtymore Uphill event. The race is 4.5km distance with estimated 700m climb, a true test of endurance for sure. Martin was 4th overall with a time of 0:38:36, while Shay was 14th overall in 0:44:48. A great start to both athletes for the start of the mountain running season.
The final weekend of the Leinster Track & Field took place last weekend with great performances and results for Gowran AC, with many athletes medaled and/or in the top 4 to qualify for the Nationals in two weeks time. Well done to all and best of luck in two weeks time 👏🏻👏🏻🔴⚪️

May and June are two very busy months in the Athletics calendar, with the track and field season in full swing. First up for our athletes were the Leinster Relays in Carlow where we had 4 teams competing in horrendous downpours, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of our runners. Well done to all the athletes on the day with each of them giving it their all on the track,
U13 Boys 6th Heat 2: Bryan Og Brennan, Cian Shortall, Conor Maher, Conn Tierney and Harry O’Regan.

Some of our athletes were back out the next day for the Leinster Combined events, which now facilitates for the ever enthusiastic younger juveniles with a Quadrathlon for U11 and U12, with Pentathlon for U13 to Masters. Gowran had 18 athletes competing in SETU, Carlow on Sunday with 11 of those taking part in their first combined event. There were some great results, medals, PB’s and lots of great memories from the day, with many looking forward to the next indoor combined already!!!! Congratulations to everyone and thanks to those supporting from trackside in the rain ☔️🙂..👏🏻👏🏻🔴⚪️

𝐋𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐉𝐮𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐬 & 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

On Saturday and Sunday, 6th and 7th June, Athletics Leinster will host the Leinster Juvenile Relays & Combined Events Championships at SETU South Sports Campus, Mortarstown Upper, Co. Carlow.

We look forward to another exciting weekend of athletics, but it will not be possible to stage this event without the support of our officials and volunteers.
A sincere thank you to those who have already committed to assisting over the weekend.
However, we currently do not have sufficient numbers to adequately staff both days of competition.

❗️We are asking all clubs to please submit the names of officials as soon as possible to assist with planning and ensure the smooth running of the championships.
❗️For the relays (Saturday), please submit the name of at least 1 official for every 5 teams/10 athletes competing.
For the combined events (Sunday), please submit the name of one official for every 5 athletes competing.

Fresh from his decathlon the previous week, James Kelsey was back in action in Tullamore this time competing in the National Schools T&F, James won silver in the Senior Boys Pole Vault and placed 9th in the Senior High Jump. On Sunday it was the juveniles competing in Tullamore at the Leinster U12 & U13 Track & Field. 7 of our athletes travelled up for the day to take on the sprints, distance, shot put and high jump, well done to everyone on a great day of athletics

Junior, Senior & Master Leinsters took place over the weekend in SETU in the blistering heat with some fantastic performances from all our athletes over the two days. James Kelsey took on the U20 decathlon, working really hard in all 10 disciplines to set another New Championship Record of 4943 and secure 🥇. James also set new PB’s in 100m, 400m, Long Jump, 110mH and 1500m. A fantastic achievement James 👏🏻👏🏻
Rachel Gardiner was also in flying form in the U20 Ladies winning 🥈 in Weight for Distance and 🥉in the Shot Put.
Jack Gardiner stepped up two ages to compete in the U20 Men Discus 🥉, Shot Put 4th, WFD 4th.
Alex Donnellan continued her winning ways by clinching 3 🥇🥇🥇in the Javelin, Shot Put & Discus. Alex always secured two PB’s along the way too.
Matt Ryan was in excellent form on both days of competition, but an outstanding performance again in the 3000m S/C to see him run another new PB (14:17.68) for first 🥇and retain his Leinster Championship Record. Matt also competed in the Long jump🥇, high jump🥇, 100m 🥈, 800m🥉. John Coady ran the masters 5000m on Sunday in the blistering midday heat in a great time of 17:23.21 to clinch 🥉. Marie Deegan took on 3 events on Sunday, winning 🥇 in the triple jump, 🥈in the discus and 🥉 in the Weight for Height.

There was great success today at the para athletics fest in Newcastle West. Alex Donnellan came away with 3 gold medals and new PBs in Shot and Discus. Alex was also awarded with an “Outstanding Achievement in Sport” award from her school Presentation De La Salle on Thursday last. Alex had an amazing year in her athletics career in 2025 winning lots of medals both home & abroad. Alex also captained the Irish team last summer when they headed to Coventry for another successful trip, bringing home 3 medals with her. Congratulations Alex on your award and the best of luck for the 2026 athletics year 👏🏻❤️🤍
