There’s something very special about this footage from Inis Oírr in 1988, shared by the Days of the Naomh Eanna Trust. 🇮🇪🚣♂️
Among the young rowers is a young Micheál Ó Cualáin from an Cheathrú Rua — and incredibly, Micheál is still rowing all these years later!
The footage also captures some of the currach builders and craftspeople behind the tradition — a lovely reminder that it’s not just about the racing, but also the skill, knowledge and generations of craftsmanship that keep the currach tradition alive.
Nearly 40 years later, it’s wonderful to look back and see familiar faces, old boats and a tradition that is still alive today.
Some things change with the years… but the love of the currach, the sea and the tradition stays the same. ❤️🌊
