There’s something very special about this footage from Inis Oírr in 1988, shared by the Days of the Naomh Eanna Trust. 🇮🇪🚣‍♂️

Among the young rowers is a young Micheál Ó Cualáin from an Cheathrú Rua — and incredibly, Micheál is still rowing all these years later!

The footage also captures some of the currach builders and craftspeople behind the tradition — a lovely reminder that it’s not just about the racing, but also the skill, knowledge and generations of craftsmanship that keep the currach tradition alive.

Nearly 40 years later, it’s wonderful to look back and see familiar faces, old boats and a tradition that is still alive today.

Some things change with the years… but the love of the currach, the sea and the tradition stays the same. ❤️🌊

A fantastic sight to see the start of the Senior Men’s Final at today’s Cleggan Currach Regatta — and even more special knowing it was the first regatta in Cleggan in 29 years!

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this great tradition back to Cleggan.

Thank you to the organisers and all the volunteers for a very well-run regatta. It was a pleasure to be part of such a special occasion. 💙🛶

Here’s to many more regattas in Cleggan! 🌊

As the sun sets behind Inis Oírr Pier, another week draws to a close on the pier extension project. Every stone laid is another step towards a stronger future for the island.
At the same time, Bláth na Mara arrives with another vital delivery of drinking water—a reminder that even the simplest necessities rely on the dedication of so many.
There’s something special about evenings like this, where hard work meets the quiet beauty of an island sunset. Here’s to everyone keeping the island moving, on land and at sea. Have a great weekend. 🌅⚓
