FANORE BURREN RUN 2026 — VIDEO AND PHOTOS

As promised, here is the start of Saturday's run, along with some photos from the day.

Thank you to Tony Higgins, who took the photos.

If you spot yourself or someone you know, please feel free to tag them, and we'd be delighted if you shared this post with anyone who was there.

If you have any photos or videos of your own from the day, we'd love to see them. You're very welcome to send them to [email protected] and we'll try to put some of them up here.

We're already planning next year's run and we'll have details in the coming months. We'd love to see you then.

FANORE BURREN RUN 2026 — THANK YOU

A huge thank you to everyone who ran, jogged and walked on Saturday, and to everyone who came out to support. It was one of the biggest turnouts the run has seen, with plenty of new faces alongside the regulars.

Thanks also to our marshals and volunteers, to everyone who looked after the soup and tea, and to O'Donohue's for hosting us.

This year's run was dedicated to Kevin McCormack and Ivan Linnane. They'd have loved the crowd.

The first ten finishers in each race are in the photo below.

We are already planning for next year — details in the coming months. We hope to see you all back.

We will be posting some photos and a video, hopefully later on today.

FANORE BURREN RUN 2026
Race day — Saturday 26 September

It's this morning. Half marathon, 10K and 5K, all starting and finishing at O'Donohue's Pub, Fanore, at 11am.

You don't need to have entered online. Registration opens at O'Donohue's at 10am, cash or cheque only:
Half marathon — €30 (€25 over-65s and students)
10K — €25 (€20 over-65s and students)
5K — €20 (€15 over-65s and students)
Family rates — just ask at registration.

Walk it, jog it or run it. The 5K is a nice gentle course, and dogs are welcome on the course on a lead.

Everyone who crosses the line goes home with the medal with Kevin McCormack and Ivan Linnane on the front. Soup, a roll and a cup of tea afterwards.

Not running? Come down and cheer them on.

Tomorrow, Saturday 26 September. Race starts at 11am from O'Donohue's Pub, Fanore.

Half Marathon — €30 (€25 over-65s and students)
10K — €25 (€20 over-65s and students)
5K — €20 (€15 over-65s and students)

After midnight it is cash or cheque at O'Donohue's from 10am tomorrow morning. That works too — it is just a tight hour before the start, so tonight is easier on everyone.

A word on the hills, since a few people have asked. The half marathon climbs Slieve Elva. The 10K has a pull up out of the village. The 5K is gentle the whole way round.

Everyone who crosses the line gets the medal with Kevin and Ivan on the front.

See you tomorrow.

FANORE BURREN RUN 2026
Saturday 26 September — three days

On Saturday morning, everybody who crosses the line in Fanore will be handed a medal with Kevin McCormack and Ivan Linnane on the front.

Kevin started this race and ran it his own way for years — laid back about most things, and with his own way of procuring safety cones that nobody ever asked too many questions about. Without him there would be nothing to turn up to on Saturday.

Ivan was on the committee a long time, and there was very little in Fanore he did not have a hand in. He took charge of the traffic on race morning, and anybody who ever drove a bus through this village will remember being told where to put it. He was right, of course, and we miss him greatly.

The medals came back from the makers last week. Every one of them goes home with somebody on Saturday evening.

If you knew either of them, you will know what that morning is going to be. Come if you can, and share this with anybody who should see it.

FANORE BURREN RUN 2026
Saturday 26 September — race week
Half Marathon | 10K | 5K

This is the week the village gets ready.

Kevin used to put the cones out the night before, by torchlight, and be back on the road just after dawn to check everything was where he left it. Somebody will do that again on Friday night. That is how this race has always been run — local people doing small jobs so that everybody else gets a morning out.

A word about the 5K, because it is the one most people overlook.

It is a gentle course. A good share of the field walks it, there is no clock chasing anybody, and the same welcome is waiting at the finish whether it takes you twenty minutes or an hour. If you have been quietly deciding this race is not for you, the 5K is the part that is. Bring somebody with you and make a morning of it. And of course you can always run it twice for an alternative 10K.

The 10K is a little more, out on the quiet roads around the village. The half marathon takes on the climb up Slieve Elva, and the view from the top is the reward.

Not long to go

FANORE BURREN RUN 2026
Saturday 26 September — twelve days to go
Half Marathon | 10K | 5K

That is the road above the village, on the kind of September morning we are hoping for.

Nobody out there on their own. That is the thing worth knowing if you have been wondering whether you are fit enough, or fast enough, or the right sort of person for a race. There is no right sort. There are people who run it, people who jog it and people who walk it, and they all get the same welcome at the finish.

Pick your distance
5K — the gentle one, and a good share of the field walks it.
10K — the quiet roads around the village, the ones in the photograph.
Half Marathon — the climb up Slieve Elva, and the view from the top to make up for it.

Everyone who crosses the line gets the medal, with Kevin and Ivan on the front.
