O’Callaghan’s Mills Parish notes

Clare Champion Cup
O’Callaghan’s Mills Senior Hurling Team have been drawn against Kilmaley in the semi final of the County Senior Hurling League Clare Champion Cup. Scariff will play Newmarket in the other semifinal. Meanwhile the Intermediate team defeated Feakle 2-19 to 2-14 in the final round of the league played at Hamilton Park, Kilkishen on Tuesday evening June 9th. They will now play Newmarket in the semifinal. Ennistymon have already secured their spot in the final by topping the group stage.

Camogie
Kilkishen camogie Club Under 13 team defeated Crusheen 4-5 to 1-5 in Fr McNamara Park, Doora on Saturday last June 13th to win the County Under 13C Championship. Team captain Saoirse Frost received the cup on behalf of the team. Meanwhile two Kilkishen Club members are on the Clare Under 14 Camogie Development Squads: Kate Madden and Sorlaith Vaughan.

Handball Reception
Clare County Council hosted a Mayoral Awards Ceremony in the Council Chambers at Áras Contae an Chláir on Monday evening June 8th marking outstanding achievements by Clare Handball teams. The event was attended by Clare Handball team winners and individual All Ireland winners, club officers, family members, local representatives and staff of the Clare County Council. Club Officers and Handball winners from Kilkishen Handball Club were also in attendance. Mayor of Clare Paul Murphy said today we recognise not just victories but dedication, commitment and community spirit that under pin every success in our club across the county. He presented all the All-Ireland winners with awards marking their achievement.

Lotto Jackpot Winner
O’Callaghan’s Mills GAA and Parish Lotto Jackpot of 410,400 was won on Monday evening last June 8th by Ciara Palache from Quin. The new jackpot will start at €3,000. The lotto draw is made every Monday night at 9pm at the clubhouse at Hamilton Park, Kilkishen except on Bank Holiday weekends when it is drawn on Tuesday nights.

Club Members Draw
O’Callaghan’s Mills GAA Club draw for March, April and May was held recently in the clubhouse at Hamilton Park, Kilkishen. The following are the winners for March: Deirdre Cotter, Clonbrick, Kilkishen, Aidan O’Gorman, Belvoir, Kilkishen, Tadgh McGrath, Iragh, O’Callaghan’s Mills. The April winners are Peter Carmody, Sixmilebridge, John Kelly Iragh, O’Callaghan’s Mills, Eamon Taffee, Iragh, O’Callaghan’s Mills. The May winners are Mike Sweeney, Kilkishen, Pat Fawl, Cloncool, O’Callaghan’s Mills and Kate Lynch, Enach, Kilkishen.

School News
The O’Callaghan’s Mills N.S. celebrated their annual Active Wellbeing week. They a enjoyed a delicious fruit and vegetable tasting session. Exploring new flavours and making healthy choices.
The senior room had an amazing day at the university of Limerick on their school tour, and the junior room explored a day of STEM.
They finished off the week by being very creativity and having lots of laughs by creating an alternative idea to their school bags. They also enjoyed a teddy bears picnic.
Due to the bad weather, they will be having their sports day and bouncing castle on Monday and then on Tuesday going for their annual 12 o’clock hills hike.
Congratulations to Aoife Quinlivan who was on the panel for Kilkishen camogie team which won the U13C final at the weekend against Crusheen. Well done to all the players and management on this wonderful win.
Finally, after 15 years of service, Ms. Sharon Brady, the principal of O’Callaghan’s Mills N. S. is retiring. We wish Sharon every happiness and good health and would like to thank her for her dedication to the school.

Recent Death
The death took place recently of Kathleen Moroney nee Liddy, Enach, Kilkishen in University Hospital Limerick. Predeceased by her husband Seamus and sister Marie McNamara. She is survived by her daughters and sons Bernie, Ger, Dermot, Aidan and Monica, daughters-in-law Veronica (O’Halloran), Yvonne (Hogan) and Siobhán (McInerney), sons-in-law Brendan (Reidy) and Fergal (Daly), adored grandchildren Darragh, Eadaoin, Keelin, Áine, Oisín, Dan, Donnacha, Jamie, Joe, Harry and Seán, nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and neighbours.
Kathleen’s funeral mass took place in St Senan’s Church, Kilkishen. After requiem mass burial took place in Clonlea Cemetery Kilkishen.

O’Callaghan’s Mills Parish Notes

Clare Champion Cup
O’Callaghan’s Mills senior hurling team advanced to the semi final of The Clare Champion Cup when they defeated Clooney/Quin by 6 points at Hamilton Park, Kilkishen on Sunday May 7th on a scoreline of O’Callaghan’s Mills 3 -14, Clooney/Quin 2-11. The half time score was 3-6 to 2-6. The goals from Fionn Hickey, Sean Boyce and Brian Donnellan put O’Callaghan’s Mills on the road to the semi final. Kilmaley, Newmarket and Scariff are the other teams in the semi finals.
Meanwhile, the Intermediate team travelled to Ennistymon on Bank Holiday Monda, May 1st to play the home team in The Intermediate League. Ennistymon winning on a score of 1-20 to 0-17.
The Junior B team had Crusheen as visitors to Hamilton Park on Friday June 5th and won on a score of 2-19 to 3-9 in The Junior B League.

The Nickey Rackard Cup
Former O’Callaghan’s Mills under age player, Cillian McNamara was goalkeeper on the New York team that won The Nickey Rackard cup in Croke Park on Saturday May 30th. They defeated Tyrone 2-22 t0 2-17 in the final, the weekend previously they defeated Mayo in the semi final. Cillian also won a Lory Meagher medal also with New York in 2025. New York will play in the Cristy Ring cup in 2027.
Meanwhile 2 under 17 players from the club were members of the Clare Celtic challenge team that defeated Limerick in the All Ireland B final played at the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick on Saturday last June 6th. Jamie Moroney lined out in goals and Donnach Lenihan lines out at midfield.

Members Draw
The O’Callaghan’s Mills GAA club members draw was held recently in the clubhouse at Hamilton Park, Kilkishen for the months of March, April and May. School news
On Friday 5th of June, 6th class boys and girls from O’Callaghan’s Mills and Kilkishen National School made their confirmation at St. Patrick’s Church, O’Callaghan’s Mills. It was celebrated by Bishop Fintan Monahan and Fr. Donal.
The Junior room in the school recently had a fantastic day out in Quin at Tim Clune’s farm. It was in conjunction with Kinsla, Farm and Home store, Ennis and Kerry Agribusiness. They learnt about the farm and got the opportunity to milk cows and feed calves. Tim and his family gave the children such a warm welcome.
The whole school also got the opportunity to perform at Glór, Ennis. This was in conjunction with Music Generation, Clare. For 20 weeks a representative from Music Generation, Shane, came to the school and spent time with the children, teaching them ukulele and other music instruments. They performed on stage at Glór in front of other schools involved in the program.
As a result of the school participating in Bike Week 2026, they have been rewarded with a €250 sports voucher from Clare Sports Partnership. They presented this to the school on Thursday 4th.

O’Callaghan’s Mills Parish notes week ending 31st May 2026
Clare Champion Cup
O’Callaghan’s Mills Senior Hurling team defeated County Senior Hurling Champions Eire Og, Ennis in round 7 of the Clare Champion cup at the Eire Og club grounds on Saturday May 30th on a score line of 4-16 to 2-15. Goals from Colin Crehan, Bryan Donnellan, Jacob Loughnane and Kevin O’Callaghan put O’Callaghan’s Mills on the front foot. They now have a home quarter final against neighbours Clooney Quin on Sunday June 7th at Hamilton Park, Kilkishen. Meanwhile the Junior B team were defeated by Clooney Quin in the Junior B league on Friday May 29th on a score line of 2-20 to 2-14 played at Clooney Quin GAA Grounds.

College Final
St Joseph’s Tulla Senior Hurling team defeated St Flannan’s Ennis in the County Senior Secondary School Senior Hurling Final Played at Gurteen GAAA Grounds Doora on Wednesday May 27th. The teams were deadlocked after extra time at St Joseph’s 2-19 to St Flannan’s 0-25. The game went to sudden death penalties with O’Callaghan’s Mills players Liam Murphy and Jamie Moroney converting their penalties to claim victory for St Joseph’s. Team captain Liam Murphy scored 12 points for St Joseph’s. Another O’Callaghan’s Mills player Martin Bon also got on the score sheet with 1-2 from play. After the game vice chairman of the Clare County GAA Board Michael O’Connor presented the cup to Liam Murphy, St Joseph’s captain.

Camogie
Kilkishen U15 team were defeated by the Banner Club from Ennis in the county under 15C Championship final played at Fr McNamara Park, Doora on Sunday morning last May 30th. The teams were level at full time and it went to extra time with the Banner ladies wining on a score line of 6-10 to 5-9 after an exciting game.

Business Award
O’Callaghan’s Mills-based sports engineering company Torpey has been named Best Sports Business at the Irish Sport Industry Awards. The award recognises the company’s leadership in performance sports equipment, commitment to sustainability, and expansion into international markets. The awards, organised by the Federation for Irish Sport, were held at Dublin’s College Green Banking Hall on 19 May and celebrate excellence across Ireland’s sports sector. Managing Director Sean Torpey accepted the award on behalf of the company.

Under 20 All Ireland
Sean Boyce came on as a sub on the victorious Clare u20 team that defeated Galway 4-20 to 2-16 in the All-Ireland U20 Hurling Final played at Semple Stadium Thurles on Sunday May 30th. Seanie scored one of his trademark points after coming on the pitch. There are other connections with O’Callaghan’s Mills and Kilkishen on the team. Team captain Eoin Gunning Mam is Bernie O’Connell formerly from Kilkishen and a nephew of PJ O’Connell who won two All-Ireland titles with Clare in 1995 and 1997. Marco Cleary who scored 1-2 is a nephew of Maureen Cleary, Clonloum, O’Callaghan’s Mills.

Recent Death
The death recently occurred of William (Liam) Keogh, Beaumont, Dublin, formerly of RTÉ, in the month of his 85th birthday. He was the father of Sinéad O’Mara, Kilgorey, O’Callaghan’s Mills, and was predeceased by his brother, Seán. Liam is sadly missed by his wife Marie, daughters Emer and Sinéad, grandchildren Ciara, Conor, Jenny, Declan and Oisín, his much-loved great-grandson Theo, sisters, brother, nieces, nephews, neighbours and many friends. His remains were removed from Stafford’s Funeral Home, Maypark, Donnycarney, to the Church of Our Lady of Consolation, Donnycarney. Following Requiem Mass, cremation took place at Davidstown Crematorium.

Recent Weddings
The wedding recently took place of Darren Cooney, son of Donal and Marie Cooney, Killuran, O’Callaghan’s Mills, and Niamh Butler at St Lua’s Church, Ballina, Co. Tipperary.
Bridesmaids were Rachel Sheridan and Ailish Kenrick, while the groomsmen were Ciaran Cooney, Gary Cooney and Kevin O’Callaghan. Following the ceremony, celebrations were held at the Lakeside Hotel, Ballina, Co. Tipperary, with a second day of festivities enjoyed at the Mills Tavern, O’Callaghan’s Mills. Darren and Niamh will make their home in Iragh, O’Callaghan’s Mills.
The wedding also recently took place of Ian Donnellan, son of Enda and Marie Donnellan, Main Street, Kilkishen, and Ciara Torpey, Corrovorrin, Ennis, daughter of John and Ann Marie Torpey. The ceremony was held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Barefield. Ian’s best man was Chris Philpot, while the groomsmen were Stephen and Keith Donnellan. Ciara’s maid of honour was Sophie Torpey, and the bridesmaids were Catriona Brady and Aobhinn Quinn. Flower girls were Aodhla Fitzgerald and Caoimhseach O’Callaghan, while Dathi Donnellan served as page boy.The newlyweds celebrated their marriage with family and friends at a reception in the Lakeside Hotel, Killaloe.

The Great East Clare Hill Challenge
The Great East Clare Hill Challenge will be held this year on Saturday July 5th. It will start at 8am from Two Mile Gate, Killaloe. It is a demanding 30KM hill hike through rugged terrain and bogland that will test your endurance and reward you with some of the most breath-taking views in East Clare. The challenge will finish at the foot of the 12 O’Clock Hills. The 30km hike will take approximately 8 hours to complete and full details are available at
