At WolfPack Football, routine is one of the most important foundations of our sessions. Each week our classes follow the same structure:
- Welcome & warm-up song to get moving
- Three familiar core games
- A shooting game or obstacle course
- Sticker hunt & finish
This predictability helps children feel safe, confident and ready to engage. We can see clearly from the start to the end of each block how each child progresses on each game once they become familiar. When children know what’s coming next, they can focus more energy on playing, learning and enjoying themselves instead of the worry of something new becoming a challenge.
⚽️🥅How we use routine in class:
We keep the structure the same every week and only introduce one new game at most each session, while keeping the rest familiar. This works well when we sandwich a new element between two games that we know the kids enjoy and are familiar with.
Our structured routine supports regulation, confidence & independence, willingness to try new skills and improve weekly.
Making the transitions from each game a bit more fun is part of our sessions each week also. By asking the kids to help gather cones or by using the "ball monster" we make tidy up and transitions a game which we hope can help our kids in other areas of their daily routine outside of our Football session
🏟Try this at home:
Create a simple routine for a playtime session (e.g. warm-up song → game → tidy up). Using the same order each time can really help your child feel calm & confident and progress. Let us know how it goes and even better if you copy some of our WolfPack games to do this 🙂
