We were proud to host this month's Irish Iaido Squad training at Tanryoku Dublin and appreciate Batman's positive evaluation of our cool wall. Nana korobi ya oki » (七転び八起き)! Never give up!

During July we attended the traditional Koryu Iaido Summer Seminar and Iaido Coupe Grand Sud in Toulouse organized by Saint-Jean Martial Arts.
It was a wonderful opportunity to learn new skills, gain more Taikai experience, and participate in a tournament open to practitioners of ZNKR Seitei Iai and all Koryu traditions🤝.

A big thanks to Robert Rodriguez Sensei 7th Dan Kyoshi and all the supporting teachers (including , Pere Calpe, Radek Januszkiewicz, Manuel Rodrigues, Oriol Blanco, Oscar Ibanez Perez, Maxime Hahusseau and our own Raúl Fernandez ) and the other participants who took the time to patiently guide us towards improving our Iaido.
Even the 40°C heatwave ☀🔥 became part of the training, giving us an unexpected opportunity to practise perseverance in keiko while being gently sous vided in our gis.

Some of our women members were excited to represent Irish Iaido at the Irish Martial Arts Commission WIS Women in Sports event! Women from around Ireland came together to train together and share techniques from their martial art, as well as make new friends and meet old ones. Arts included are Aikido, Iaido, Karate, Kickboxing, Kendo, Ninpo, Taekwon-Do and Wushu, and the best thing was that we could try out all of them 😃. https://fb.watch/ICTVhPXD7a/

We are very proud of all the participants and graduates of our first beginners’ course 🎉 It was great to see their progression from 1) “What is an obi, and how does one even…?” to 2) “This is how to hold a sword,” to 3) looking increasingly sharp while using it, and finally 4) summoning the courage to demonstrate their skills during grading.

Even better, we’d like to welcome our new members, who have now progressed to stage 6 😊 → return to the dojo!

At the end of April, some of our members travelled to Madrid to attend an Iaido seminar with Robert Rodriguez Sensei.

It was a great seminar focused on ZNKR Iaido, where we reviewed some of the latest changes and received valuable advice to bring back to the dojo.

On top of that, it was a nice break to enjoy some sunshine, good food, and time with good friends!

Many of you will recognise this quote, and it happens to be on one of the walls so we’ll take that as a good omen!

Back home from Magglingen Iaido & Jodo Seminar! A total of 7 members from Ireland travelled to the seminar, it is great to see such a big number!

The seminar was exceptionally well organised, and we are very grateful to all the teachers for their time, guidance, and support throughout the semiar.

During the weekend gradings for Jodo and Iaido were held and our own Aurelie Gauthier passed Ikkyu in Jodo and Nidan in Iaido!

John Kennedy from our close friends at Dublin Kendo Kobukai along with our own Raul Fernandez, both successfully passed 5th Dan

Having such a strong group represented at an international seminar like Magglingen It’s a testament to the growth and dedication of Iaido and Jodo in Ireland.

Beyond the achievements and gradings, weekends like this are a reminder what budo is really about: learning, practice, and building friendships!
