Hi everyone,
We are getting close and almost on the final countdown, this is probably not the message you have been waiting for …… 😊
As a runner myself one thing I can not stand is getting a race day email with all the race day announcements do and do not it’s the last thing you want to read so I’ll make it very easy and simple……
First off—Thank you to everyone for signing up without you this event would not be possible and we are delighted to welcome you to the 2026 Dublin mountain Backyard 6th edition
The event is scheduled for Saturday, 9th May
Starting Time: 12:00 (midday)
The starting time is all you need to know that’s the most important thing
• Location: unknown 😊 you’ll just have to find it yourself
• Gates open at 10:00am (early arrivals will be judged silently)
• Parking is limited, so carpool if you can
• Park where you’re told, not where your heart tells you,and do not park like the car is robbed as we have had this experience before and we’ll keep that story for another day..
• Crew is allowed, but again—less cars, more brains car pool if possible
• No parking on the road unless you fancy explaining it later
Event Rules this is the serious part
• No hiking poles
• No headphones
• No on-course assistance
• No pacers, motivators, life coaches.
Break these and you’re out,it’s over your going home.
Race Format:
Before the race begins you will be issued a
• 3 min, 2 min, 1 min warnings… then go
• Not in the start corral on time -
You’re done. No speeches. It’s over..
• Finish inside the hour and be ready to go again…
Course Notes:
• The course will be marked out by foot prints lol 😂
• You’ll have a GPS—if you find one already out there from last year, please return it, it’s probably still recording someone’s meltdown
• If you get lost, just keep running—you’ll either find the course or a new life
Facilities:
• Hot water and microwaves available
• “Last Lap Café” on site (name becomes more ironic as the hours go on)
• Water stations on course… well… don’t rely on it unless it rains
Toilets well in emergency use your brain 😂😂
What to Bring:
• Trail shoes (and backups for when they betray you)
• Spare socks (your future self will thank you)
• All-weather gear (this is Ireland, not Spain)
• Fully charged phone + battery pack
• Mandatory waterproof jacket
• Headtorch (because yes, it will get dark… and emotional)
Camping:
• You can pitch a tent in the designated area
• Or just lie down somewhere and question your life choices
Race Pack:
• Race number + T-shirt on the day
• Your race number = the number beside your name on Facebook (we trust you can find yourself)
Event T-shirt from Temu (do not wash ever )
Emergency Info:
• Emergency numbers are… optimistic
• If things go really wrong, Tallaght Hospital is only about a 15-minute roll down the hill—just pick a good line
Final Notes:
• Check the weather (then ignore it like everyone else)
• Bring sunscreen, a rain jacket, and possibly emotional support
• At some point, you will wonder why you signed up—this is normal
All jokes aside, we’re genuinely looking forward to seeing you all at basecamp on Saturday, 9th May. It’ll be tough, slightly chaotic, and absolutely brilliant.
Please keep a eye on your emails we will email you over the race day information in the next week with links for parking and final details, more or less above is all you need do know
Best of luck……..
Kind regards,
Noel Ward
