Daingean Grand Canal Wheelers

Many of our GCW members participated in the successful Offaly GAA fundraiser cycle on bank holiday Monday, in perfect weather!

Most of us cycling on behalf of Daingean GAA, with the O’Neills cycling on behalf of Clonbollogue.

We took on the north Offaly route. Beginning at Glenisk O'Connor Park, taking participants through Cappincur, Ballinagar, Daingean, Croghan, Rhode, Edenderry, Clonbollogue, Bracknagh, Gracefield and Raheen, before returning to the finish line at Glenisk O'Connor Park.

Some of us completed the full 90km route , while others met the group at Daingean and covered 75kms!

Special mention for some PBs on the day !! -

🎉 Jackie, Shauna, Nicky and Danny for hitting their first EVER 90km cycle 🙌 🤩

🎉 Eileen, Johnny, Grainne, Claire, Brian, Tommy and Vinny for hitting the 90km mark for the first time in 2026 👏

🎉 James for a PB in 2026 of 75kms👏

🎉 future GCW member Ross who also competed the 90km route, and daughter Maisy who hit approx 40km 🙌

🎉 Matt and son Rory on the tandem also got through the full 90k route !

Seriously SUPER efforts all round !! 🥇

The day has raised over 100k, half of which goes to Offaly GAA with the other half being split with all clubs in the county.
Well done to Official Offaly GAA on a great event !
And finally thanks to Daingean Gaa and Deborah for inviting our members to participate on their behalf 👏

Summer cycles so far !
Been a while since we posted our weekly cycles , but we have been getting out and about every week - especially during this gorgeous spell of sunshine ☀️ 🚴‍♀️

As well as the usual mid week and weekend spins , a group of us took part in South Roscommon Cycling Club sportive , we participated in the Daingean Sundew Festival parade and canal canoe race , Seamus and Vinny did the Tour de Connemara, and some of us have been up The Cut a few times !!

Not forgetting our summer social cycle last weekend! 🍻 🚴‍♀️ 🍔 🎶 🍹

2026 GCW Summer Social Cycle !!

A great group of us headed out on the Greenway from Daingean yesterday afternoon , making our way to Shannon Harbour , and then the quick spin on the road to Banagher where our cycling ended but celebrations continued 🍻 🍺 🍷 🍹

Along the way we stopped into The Thatch in Rahan for some refreshments in their beer garden, then later we were welcomed by Shirley at McIntyres pub in Shannon Harbour who looked after us with both much needed food and cold drinks in the lovely sunsoaked seating out the front 👍 ☀️

On arrival into Banagher some of us couldn’t resist the cool waters of the Shannon after our 55km spin! Amazing !!

As he did last year Ger in JJ Houghs made us feel very welcome, as we parked our bikes in the yard and headed inside for drinks , burgers and fries , and music featuring Daingean man Jack Cunningham on the banjo !!

Thanks to Eoghan for bringing our bags across from Daingean, and to Brian Mangan for helping us load up our bikes and our merry members, and get us all home safe at the end of a mighty day!!

Massive congratulations to the organising committee of the Daingean Sundew Festival on a fantastic weekend for the town!
The Wheelers gratefully accepted the invitation to participate in the seriously fun canoe race on the canal , and the Sundew Parade on the Sunday.

One of the best things about our weekend cycles! ☕️ at Hotshot Coffee

Fabulous morning for an 80km spin around the roads of Offaly and we were treated to a delicious coffee at Hotshot Coffee in Daingean. Highly recommend dropping into them. ☕️☀️🚲💪
