Great to see five girls from College Corinthians selected for the Cork U16 squad for the coming season.
A special mention to Lily, Amy, Chloe and Lily, who all spent time training with us, and Maggie, who I had the pleasure of coaching during a preseason block with College Corinthians.
It’s always lovely to see young players you’ve crossed paths with along the way doing well.
I think sometimes we only see the end result with these things. The squad announcement, the selection, the congratulations. What we don’t always see is the years of work that have gone into getting there.
The evenings spent training when they could have been doing something else, the extra sessions, the setbacks, the sacrifices made by families and the commitment to keep showing up and improving.
And the reality is, there’s no one coach, academy or programme responsible for a young player’s development. It’s a combination of so many people along the way, but ultimately it’s the player who has to put in the work.
That’s why it’s so rewarding to see young players getting opportunities like this. Not because of any small part we might have played, but because you know how much effort goes on behind the scenes to reach that level.
A brilliant achievement for all five girls, their families and everyone involved in their development at College Corinthians and beyond.
Well done girls, thoroughly deserved. Wishing ye all the very best for the season ahead!
