Jack Doyle, the Gorgeous Gael, is celebrated the world over for his boxing success and for his outstanding singing voice, he was ‘larger than life’. Coming from the heart of Cobh he took the world stage and did it in style, as some did before him and others since. Visitors to Cobh always ask about Jack Doyle. Cobh should remember its heroes and heroines, many are listed at:

www.visitcobh.com/

Others might include the Ball family (sisters Anne, Elizabeth and Mary and brother Robert) who were pioneering scientists and zoologists. And of course, we must not forget the patriots, noted among them Jim Fitzgerald, Michael Leahy and Daithi O’Brien of War of Independence fame. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a n-anamacha.
