Rathcon Lake

Rathcon Lake Rathcon Lake is an 8.5 acre rainbow trout fishery in West Wicklow. The lake is fly fishing only and open all year round. Reservations must be made.

The average weight is 3lbs with plenty of trout well into double figures.

The final of the Rathcon winter league was on Sunday . 18 anglers qualified to fish the 4 hour final. It was a challenging but fair competition with 34 fish landed. Many thanks to all the participants and to Aidan and Paul for organizing and Southside Angling for their sponsorship. The results were

The 3rd and final qualifier was on today. 17 anglers fished and had a fantastic return of 97 fish. The results are:

The 1st of the Rathcon winter league qualifiers was on yesterday. This years heats and final are being organized and run by Paul and Aidan and many thanks to both of them for taking it on. A total of 52 fish were landed with plenty also missed. The results were:
1st Brian Brennan 7 fish
2nd Garret Byrne 6 fish
3rd Karl Owens 5 fish
4th Karl O Toole 4 fish
5th Alan Murray 4 fish
6th Freddie Miller 3 fish

The final of the winter league was on today. Despite the best efforts of the weather to deter the anglers everyone turned up and we started on time. There was a great return of fish with 74 landed and many more lost. Martin Mcgorian landed a 66 cm rainbow and several 50 cmplus browns were caught. Many thanks to Southside Angling for all their support during the league. The results were:

3rd Marius Lincevious 7 fish

10/02/2019

Today was the last qualifier for the Rathcon final on 10 th March. The top 5 today join the other 10 anglers in the final. 51 fish were landed with a few decent size brown and rainbow caught, including a 65 cm by Roger Fowler. Thank you to all the Stewarts and to Southside angling for sponsoring a prize. The results were :

The 2nd qualifier was held today. 18 anglers fished the 4 hour event . A total of 44 fish were landed. Many thanks to Aidan, Martin and Ger for helping out and to Southside Angling for sponsoring a prize.

The first qualifier of the 2019 winter league was on today. There were 18 anglers out and a total of 38 fish landed over the 4 hours with plenty also lost. There was little wind which made the fishing challenging and the buzzers came into their own in the early afternoon. The top five anglers qualified for the final next year. 3rd Ger Fogarty - 5 fish
4th Aidan Heffernan - 4 fish (biggest fish 57cm)

11/03/2018

Today was the final of the winter league. 15 anglers qualified over the previous three heats. Conditions were pretty perfect as the day started off at 1030. Within the first 40 mins 5 anglers had netted their maximum 3 fish on that peg and were off to a great start. The next hour was also good fishing before the fish became more spooked a cold easterly wind got up. It came down to the final peg with 6 anglers still in with a chance of winning it. The top three finishers all had a fish in the last 15 minutes and all ended with 8 fish landed. There was a total bag of 75 fish which is the best final in the past 9 years of holding the event. Well done to all the anglers involved today. Many thanks again to Southside Angling for their support throughout the competitions and sponsoring prizes.

1st Darius Simcus - 8 fish also the biggest fish at 67cm
2nd Martin McGorian - 8 fish
3rd Dave McBride - 8 fish
4th Vaidus Tiskus - 7 fish

11/02/2018

The final qualifier was on today. There were 18 anglers fishing and a total of 31 fish landed. It was bitterly cold with a strong north westerly wind and fishing was very tough. The fish were down deep and lures were the only method working. The biggest fish was 60 cm and caught by Martin McGorian. The top 5 anglers qualify for the final which will be on Sunday March 11th. The 2nd qualifier was held today. 18 anglers turned up and landed an impressive 62 fish. The biggest was measured at 68cm and landed by Glen McGrave. Many thanks to all the helpers today and to Southside Angling for sponsoring a prize. The results are:

Today was the 1st of the 2017/18 winter league qualifiers. 20 anglers fished with the top 5 qualifying for the final next spring. Despite good fishing conditions the day was tough with only 35 landed but a lot more lost. Many thanks to Southside Angling for sponsoring a prize. The results were:
