We are delighted to launch the official page for Castleisland Tennis Club, a place with deep roots in our community and a story worth celebrating.
Our courts stand today thanks to the vision and generosity of the W. H. O’Connor family, who first established tennis in this area many decades ago. Their commitment to sport and community laid the foundation for what would become a cherished local amenity.
In the 1980s, a dedicated community trust was formed to take ownership of both the Pitch & Putt course and the tennis courts. This ensured that these facilities would remain in the hands of the people of Castleisland — protected, maintained, and enjoyed by generations to come.
Today, the club survives and thrives as a testament to:
- Generosity
- Community spirit
- Grit and determination
- A shared love of sport
…values that continue to define Castleisland and everyone who plays here.
🙏 A Special Thank You
We want to express our sincere gratitude to the outgoing committee —
Jack Shanahan (Chairperson) and Bernard Tangney (Treasurer) —
for their remarkable stewardship of the club for over twenty years. Their dedication, care and commitment ensured that the courts remained open, safe and available to the community through changing times. The club owes them a tremendous debt of thanks.
👥 Introducing the New Committee
We are proud to introduce the new committee who will guide the next chapter of Castleisland Tennis Club:
Pat McElligott — Chairperson
John Brosnan — Secretary
Therese Dunne — Treasurer
Together, we look forward to building on the legacy of those who came before us and continuing to develop the club for current and future generations.
