We had a fantastic time at the club today with our very first intermediate tournament of the season. The tennis was top-notch, with some really close matches and great rallies. We even managed to beat the weather.

It was wonderful to see everyone enjoying themselves, and we want to give a massive shout-out to John Hennessy, our brilliant club coach, for organising the whole thing and keeping the energy high all afternoon.

A big thank you to all the players who took part and made it such an enjoyable day. It was also great to welcome some guest players, Shauna & Natasha, from Listowel Tennis Club.

Just so everyone is aware, tomorrow is going to be a very busy day in and around the car park. Our friends in the Pitch & Putt club are hosting an event that will run throughout the day.

As part of a massive effort by their team, the entire car park area has been beautifully tidied up. I am also absolutely delighted to see that our old practice wall will soon be back in action!

The club is incredibly grateful to the P&P team for all of their recent hard work, and we want to congratulate them on how fantastic the course is looking for the event.

☀️ The New Tennis Season is Officially Open! 🎾

The evenings are bright, the courts are ready, and there’s never been a better time to get moving. We are throwing open our gates and offering a massive, warm welcome to both our returning and new members.

If you are looking for a sign to try something new or dust off a racket that's been in the attic for years—this is it!

Here is why you should join us this season:

All Levels Welcome: Seriously, we mean it. Whether you have a killer serve or have never even hit a yellow ball, there is a place for you here. It’s about having fun, not perfection.

Boost Your Health: Tennis is a fantastic, low-impact way to get your steps in, improve your fitness, and clear your head after a busy day—all in the fresh air.

The Social Side: Gyms can be lonely, but tennis is inherently social. It’s a great way to meet down-to-earth people right here in the community, get a bit of friendly chat, and enjoy a laugh.

👀 Nervous about playing solo?
Don't be! We regularly run dedicated introductory evenings specifically designed for new members and absolute beginners. It’s the perfect, zero-pressure opportunity to try out the courts, meet some of our friendly current members, and find people to play at your pace.

Rackets can be provided, so all you need to do is show up in a pair of runners!

We are delighted to launch the official page for Castleisland Tennis Club, a place with deep roots in our community and a story worth celebrating.

Our courts stand today thanks to the vision and generosity of the W. H. O’Connor family, who first established tennis in this area many decades ago. Their commitment to sport and community laid the foundation for what would become a cherished local amenity.

In the 1980s, a dedicated community trust was formed to take ownership of both the Pitch & Putt course and the tennis courts. This ensured that these facilities would remain in the hands of the people of Castleisland — protected, maintained, and enjoyed by generations to come.

Today, the club survives and thrives as a testament to:

- Generosity
- Community spirit
- Grit and determination
- A shared love of sport

…values that continue to define Castleisland and everyone who plays here.

We want to express our sincere gratitude to the outgoing committee —
Jack Shanahan (Chairperson) and Bernard Tangney (Treasurer) —
for their remarkable stewardship of the club for over twenty years. Their dedication, care and commitment ensured that the courts remained open, safe and available to the community through changing times. The club owes them a tremendous debt of thanks.
