Last Friday night concluded the Bandon Premier Darts League for 2024.
The last and indeed first time that this Premier League was played was in 2019 before Covid when Jamie Crowley won the Cup and William Mc Sweeney won the Shield Event.
This year we had 17 players contest the League which saw some fantastic darts played over 7 weeks.
The Top 8 in the league overall contested the Cup Competition on Finals Night last Friday night while the next 8 contested the Shield Event.
The Shield event final saw Shane Enright take on Siobhan Keohane. It was a high quality game with lots of thrills and spills but for a few missed doubles by Siobhan it could have been a different result but Shane took the win with a 3-0 win over Siobhan. Shane played some magnificent darts during the league campaign and no doubt is a young darts player on the up.
The Cup competition saw some great quarter final games with Jamie Crowley who finished top of the league take on William Mc Sweeney who finished in 8th position. Jamie took this win 4-0 which again could have been closer bar a few missed doubles by William.
Father and Son Stephen & Ben Harrington threw up a quality game of darts with Ben taking an early 2-0 lead, while Harry bought it back to 2-1 before Ben stepped in to make it 3-1 and then went on to spurn a few doubles to win it 4-1 but back came Harry to take the win 4-3.
Sean O'Donovan defeated Stephen Skinner in another top quality display of darts winning 4 -1.
The Semi Finals saw defending Champion Jamie Crowley take on Stephen Harrington. Jamie took an early 2 leg lead before Harry battled back to level the game at 2-2. Back came Jamie to regain the lead but Harry didnt back down and bought it to a final leg decider where a quality set of 9 darts from Jamie at the start of the leg got him over the line to win it 4-3. This game also threw up 5 x 180's, 3 for Jamie and 2 for Harry!
The other Semi Final saw Mark Keohane take on Sean O'Donovan. Mark showed that he was in top form from the outset by being clinical on the doubles and took the win 4-1 with a 160 checkout. Quality arrows again!
So we had the final that we wanted. 1st in the league and defending Champion Jamie Crowley against 2nd in the league Mark Keohane.
Mark got off to a great start pinning 58 in 2 darts to take the first leg.
In the second leg, Jamie narrowly missed the Bull off 130. Jamie missed a few more darts before Mark missed D11 off 139 but got the chance to clean it up after more missed darts and to take the second leg.
The 3rd leg saw Mark begin to up the ante to leave D8 off 153 taking the leg with Jamie sitting on a double. 3-0 Mark.
Jamie started the 4th leg with some savage darts getting himself to a double first but the doubles werent on his side and they most certainly were for Mark who cleaned up 34 in 2 darts.
Mark stepped up to the Oche knowing a hold of throw would lead him to victory. But Jamie kept on battling. However it was to be Mark's night taking the victory 5 - 0 by pinning D16 with his first darts after missing a 107 checkout.
An emphatic display of finishing by Mark was enough to defeat a gallant runner up in Jamie Crowley.
Congratulations to Mark on a great win. Mark organised the tournament over the last few week and thus got his fitting reward on the night.
Thanks again to Mark for organising the last few weeks and to Evan for helping Mark with the Boards setup. Also thanks to Don and Trevor as always with The Munster Arms.
Important to note also that Jamie Crowley hit an incredible 19 x 180s over the 20 games that he played. He also hit the Leagues highest Checkout of 161 over the league.
