This is my third year spearfishing in Costa Rica, chasing the elusive yellowfin tuna, and it's still one of the hardest spearfishing challenges I've ever faced.
Despite getting a few shots off and seeing the vortex of tuna pass by at 30-something feet, it's never as easy as it seems. You have to aim for the right spot, get close enough, and sometimes, just a few feet off can make all the difference. And when you're surrounded by fish, it's easy to get overwhelmed-there's so much action, you don't even know which one to aim for!

This year, I only had 3 days in the water with and , and while I watched them land fish and studied the game tapes, I still haven't managed to land the shot that sticks.
I've put second shots in, pulled the fish back to the surface, but that perfect shot is still just out of reach. But I'm not giving up-l'll get that fish on the boat next year!
