I went to Vietnam alone in February after a friendship breakup days before the trip
she bailed without telling me, & my options were to go alone on last minute notice, or not go at all.
my immediate reaction was to stay home & take the money I’d already spent as a loss. I was intimidated by doing this trip solo when I’d been psyching myself up for a girls trip
and then I caught myself.
“Sarah, what the f*ck, are you seriously not going to go on this incredible trip you’ve been sooooo excited about just because someone else bailed? are you really going to let being anxious stop you?”
& so I put my big girl pants on,
said “I can do hard things even if I’m scared!” 100 times in the mirror (not really but it felt like it),
& I f*cking went to Vietnam alone for a week.
I am not joking when I say this was the best trip of my life.
the people I met,
the things I learned,
& this feeling that I am actually so capable on my OWN -
I needed that.
I’ve never once regretted that friendship ending, because of the experience I had in the wake of it in Vietnam.
book the trip, go alone, do the thing you’re scared of - because THAT is how you build confidence.
don’t wait, because sometimes the things we’re most scared to do alone are the most life changing.
XO,
Sarah💛
