But I also wish you a heart cracked open by love.
For you to stop feeling so damn guilty.
To fill your cup first.

I wish for your grief or sadness to push you towards something meaningful.
Perhaps a moment of reckoning, that makes what you’ve been doing before no longer an option.
Or a moment of deep solitude to feel the expansiveness of the universe inside your breath.

A chance to say “f*** off.”
Or puppies, kitties.
I wish you a moment of unexplainable joy.
-
I wish you a moment of reprieve.
A moment to take your hands off the steering wheel.
And a person to see your brilliance in a way that their belief in you can carry you a few extra miles.

Whatever dose of medicine you need, I wish for you.
And a happy new year.

Unless you were a part of my inner circle, you probably didn't know I was in a polyamorous relationship for many years. Full blown- living with multiple adults, kids, cats, and just being a normal human trying to expand into love. Exactly 2 weeks ago I had surgery. Yesterday, I went out and danced like the floor was on fire. My healing feels extraordinary. 💫

I’m so lucky to have a body that works.

That bounces back so well.

For Croatian healthcare that was excellent to me.

For a roommate that spoke English, so I could understand what the hell was going on. :)

For the friends that showed up BIG for me. 🥲

For a giant p balloon that somehow became a mascot for my recovery. 😂

For meeting myself in scary new moments, and finding not only bravery, but genuine gratitude. Like “understanding how the universe works” level of gratitude. 🪢

And for the sacred moment in the operating area– overhearing a baby’s first cries and the chorus of nurses welcoming new life into the world, with “Dobar dan!”.

Can you imagine this moment? Life emerging from a cut in your abdomen?

I feel the same thing happened with me.

None of the personal growth tools matter if they’re used to subtlety lord it over someone else.

None of the heart-centered language lands if it offers a shiny veneer of the heart – showing it perfectly but without truly risking it.

Connections aren’t truly vulnerable if we’re everyone else’s coach/therapist/healer, yet don’t show our own weakness.

The more I’ve read, listened, practiced, healed– the more sneaky I can become with intellectualizing the heart and offering true vulnerability. Oh how tempting it can be to curate what I’d like people to see!

Teachings that opened me with their authenticity, now I can maneuver and manipulate to get specific outcomes. Frameworks for relating that feel honest and true can become calculated tactics delivered in a smooth voice when I’m feeling “hot”.

These are my weapons to avoid risking more of my heart.🫀

The journey of relating is only stress-tested in front of the unpredictable nature of others. And damn, others be unpredictable. It doesn’t matter what I’ve learned in isolation. When someone touches my wounds, who do I become? Someone who protects my heart, or someone who offers more?

No matter what level I think I’m playing at… being emotionally exposed is still the hardest thing to risk. It’s the constant lesson I’ll be tested on for the rest of my life.
