Updates to Dynamic Positioning certification!

The Nautical Institute continues to work hard to process Dynamic Positioning applications. It has recently made a few changes to its DP certification, and few of them are listed below:

Offshore Old Scheme: Initial Training

The training time for initial certification for those on the Offshore Old Scheme has been increased from five to six years. This is for those who started the scheme before 1 January 2015 and hold a small blue logbook, or an A5 black logbook with a logbook number starting 121. If you are applying online, please contact NI on [email protected] to make your application eligible.

Revalidation applicants

DPOs whose certificates are due for revalidation from 1 March 2020 and 30 September 2020 are still able to apply for their new certificate in the normal way. Those due for revalidation are being processed online so applicants should ensure that their scanned documentation is clearly legible to avoid queries and delays. When a new certificate is issued, this will be issued for 5 years from the original expiry date.

The Nautical Institute is still accepting documents into the office and processing applications so if you are ready to apply, please complete your application online and send your documents into NI office.

Once your application has been processed online, a letter with your certificate details will be issued and a PDF 'logbook' document will be downloadable from your account so that you can continue to record any DP time whilst you are waiting for your logbook to be returned with your new DPO Certificate.

Online DP Induction course!

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation Nautical Institute have decided to establish some temporary measures in order to enable DP Induction course delivery.
Regarding that, Apave Mare DP training center has NI permission to deliver an online Induction course until 30th June 2020.

Changes To IMIST Invigilation due to Coronavirus - COVID-19

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation, OPITO have decided to remove the requirement that the IMIST exam must be sat in an approved invigilation centre.
This means you can take the IMIST course in the safety of your home.

Important news for NI-qualified DPOs!

The Nautical Institute has developed a set of guidelines for those DPOs revalidating after the transition period for revalidation finishes on 31 December 2019.

If your DP Certificate does not have an expiry date (because it was issued before 2012), or your certificate expires before 1 January 2020, you will need to be aware of the following:
DP sea time can only be claimed while a DP certificate is valid. If you are unable to complete enough time, you will need to complete the DP Revalidation Course.

If you do not revalidate within 5 years of the expiry date, you will need to start the DP Scheme again.

Dynamic positioning operators are reminded that 2019 is the final year of the transition period for revalidation.

From 1 January 2020, those who have not revalidated will have their certificate shown as 'not valid' on The Nautical Institute's DP certificate lookup. Revalidating may incur additional requirements after that date.
