Every expedition to Antarctica is unique! There are 16 different locations in the Antarctica Peninsula that RacingThePlanet can visit, each as incredible as the last. Locations such as Petermann with its striking icy scenery, Neko Harbour with its dramatic glacier-front bay, Danco Island with its stunning landscapes and penguin colonies, Portal Point's historic landing site and much, much more.
There's no telling exactly which places the unpredictable waters and weather of Antarctica will allow, but that's part of the fun! The semi-randomness of each Antarctic race (The Last Desert, Antarctica Ultramarathon, and UltraLite (Antarctica)) make for an incredible event that can be enjoyed time and time again.

The Antarctic Expedition begins 13 November!

During RacingThePlanet: Brazil 2027 and UltraLite (Brazil), you will pass through the ruins of Igatu, an abandoned town from the days of the diamond boom in Brazil known as the "Bahian Machu Picchu". It's here that you can learn all about the "dark side" of the diamond trade in those days before Brazil abolished slavery in 1888. While today Chapada Diamantina may be itself a hidden gem of Brazil for its natural beauty, it earned its name in part for the rich diamond deposits that brought prospectors to the area in droves. With the diamond boom came enslaved workers who were made to dive the riverbeds and mine for diamonds in dangerous, hand-dug tunnels. Igatu was a mining settlement built in the early 19th century, peaking at over 10,000 residents during the height of the diamond industry. Now it lies a ghost town, with a population of only a few hundred villagers. You can learn about this fascinating segment of local history during the race while you are enjoying the myriad of waterfalls, scenic peaks, and meandering rivers.

The next edition of the RacingThePlanet Ultramarathon is in Brazil! While the Atacama Crossing is regularly held in Chile and The Last Desert departs for Antarctica from Argentina, 2027 marks the first time since 2017 a RacingThePlanet Ultramarathon has been held on the South American Continent.

Today let's throwback to RacingThePlanet: Patagonia 2017! The 10th Edition of the RacingThePlanet Ultramarathon showcased the best of Argentina's Patagonia region, featuring vast pampas, snow-capped peaks of the Andes, pristine lakes, colourful Patagonian culture and remote forest trails. The race concluded at the Blue Lagoon underneath the Tronador Mountain near the border of Argentina and Chile. Over 300 competitors from 49 countries were at the start line of the race near Lake Nahuel Huapi in Bariloche.

RacingThePlanet: Brazil will be the third entry to be hosted in South America and promises total immersion in Brazil through landscapes, history, and rhythm in the natural paradise of Chapada Diamantina.

RacingThePlanet: Brazil begins 15 August 2027.
