Advanced zhan zhuang practice

This is actually part of the advanced section of Xue Dian’s Xing Yi Quan - called Xiang Xing Shu. It is a set of practices that focus on key aspects of Xing Yi that are normally ‘weaker’ or not a main focus. After practising this advanced subset of 5 elements and 8 animals it opens up the body for more Shen fa, which is what makes xue dians style so unique ！

I practice 3 lineages of xing yi through my sifu Hai Yang. They are Li Cun Yi, Zhang Zhao D**g, and Xue Dian.

The each have their own characteristics, and may not be immediately noticeable to the people who don’t practice xing yi.

This will be a short series to help you tell the difference - remember there’s more than 1 right way to do things !

The wooden dummy is a training tool and as with all training tools there are many many ways to use it just like there are many ways to use a barbell or a heavy bag. How effective the training tool is depends on how you use it.

The one dummy can be use to train hardening of the bones, angling, power, structure,familiarity of techniques.

In this video, I’m explaining how to use springy power and not dead power in the wooden dummy. You tried to direct power into the dummy with a lighter touch and not banging the dummy.. It is supposed to be a short crisp type of Power that is more precise.

It is by all means not the only way, but it’s an intermediate method I use in dummy training.

Bear elbow single practice

Training is actually very simple. Train the movement stationary to find the kinetic chain / jing lu. Now do it in movement with footwork to find the same jing lu in movement. Do it as part of a combination. So it is more live. Apply it on a partner. Try see if it works in semi cooperative drills and sparring.

Once you can do all that you understand that technique. Yes. All that for 1 technique 🤓
