All events are entirely on mountain trails at altitude bandwidth of 1600m-3000m. The routes incorporate and skirt some of the legendary features of the Southern Drakensberg such as Sani Pass, Twelve Apostles, Khanti Ridge, Gxalingenwa Gorge, Hodgson’s Peaks, Garden Castle, Rhino Peak and Langalibalele’s Pass. Runners will enjoy the company of some of the flagship fauna of the area including the mighty Eland and the critically endangered Bearded Vulture while the presence of the ancient San people will surround them in the shape of their world-famous Rock Art. UTD is an ITRA and UTMB Index registered event and an official qualifier for Western States.

Get to know the Ultra-trail Drakensberg Miler, the longest race on Race Weekend.

The only race of RMB UTD that covers trails across two countries, the Miler starts in South Africa, runs along the Giant’s Cup, before heading up to the beautiful lunar-like landscape of Lesotho 🇱🇸

The Lesotho loop offers a culturally rich experience, where runners are sometimes accompanied by Basotho horseback shepards. Running along remote trail at altitude for a prolonged period requires next level endurance.

For many, this course offers a sunset, sunrise and sunset again and promises a unique trail running experience that lasts a life time.

Get to know the Ultra-trail Drakensberg 100, a trail that offers a bit of everything in the area.

One hundred kilometres of smooth, flowing trail with the first 60km running along the Giant’s Cup Trail, with a stacked second half that runs up the Sani Pass and along the Twelve Apostles trail. A challenge that has views at every turn with a sunrise opening the day with an early start.

The GCU is the fastest ultra on Race Weekend, often showcasing the most competitive talent in speed.
The course runs along the entirety of the Giants Cup Trail, a UNESCO heritage site.
