Lake Baringo is, after Lake Turkana, the most northern of the Kenyan Rift Valley lakes
This beautiful stretch of unusually fresh water is encircled by mountains, dotted with islands and inhabited by hippos and crocodiles.
Exploring the lake by motorboat can be great fun and comes along with the fun local drivers who have a lot of knowledge about the types of animals and how to approach them in their natural environment.
The real joy of the Lake Baringo area is how little of the tourist traffic from Naivasha and Nakuru makes it up this far. It really is a world apart.
Another highlight is the way passing from authentic villages, populated with tribes who continue to have a deserved reputation as fearsome warriors, but who are warm and welcoming hosts.
