For many people, the weekend means switching off from work.

Policing doesn’t.

Across Gibraltar, officers will continue responding to calls, investigating crime, safeguarding vulnerable people, policing our roads and being there when members of our community need help.

Some will be working nights. Others will be on call. Some will miss time with family and friends simply because the job requires it.

Most of that work will never appear on social media or make the news.

But it matters.

To all our members working this weekend, thank you, stay safe and look after each other.

🔵 WORLD DAY AGAINST TRAFFICKING IN PERSONS

Today we join organisations around the world in marking World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.

Human trafficking is a serious form of organised crime that exploits vulnerable people for profit. Tackling it requires effective policing, intelligence sharing and cooperation across borders.

As police officers, our members can find themselves dealing with people at their most vulnerable, sometimes in circumstances where exploitation may not immediately be obvious.

The Gibraltar Police Federation recognises the work of police officers and partner agencies, both here in Gibraltar and internationally, who work to identify victims, disrupt those responsible and protect vulnerable people.

As members of EuroCOP⁠, we also recognise the importance of police organisations working together across Europe to confront organised and cross-border crime.

The Gibraltar Police Federation stands firmly with the five RGP officers assaulted while responding to this incident.

Police officers attend difficult and often unpredictable situations every day to protect the public. Being punched, scratched or spat at should never be accepted as simply part of the job.

We wish all five of our colleagues a speedy recovery and thank them, and the officers alongside them, for their professionalism in dealing with what was clearly a challenging incident.

Assaults on police officers are unacceptable. Those who protect our community deserve to be protected too.

Two individuals charged following a domestic-related incident and assaults on
RGP officers.

22-year-old Ben Brown, of MacFarlane House, together with a 16-year-old female, bave been charged with a number of offences following an incident that occurred at a residential property in the early hours on Thursday 23rd July 2026.

Response Team officers were dispatched to a report of a domestic related incident, and upon arrival heard screaming and shouting from within the residence in question.

Officers found Brown and the female within and displaying minor injuries, and whilst attempting to separate the parties and obtain accounts, Brown was arrested of suspicion of Common Assault. Both individuals then lashed out violently towards the officers, resisting arrest and punching, scratching and spitting at several officers.

They were eventually restrained and conveyed to New Mole House.

A total of 5 officers assaulted during this incident sustained facial injuries that did not require hospitalisation.

Both defendants were later charged as follows:

BROWN
- 1 count of Resisting / Obstructing Police
- 2 counts of Assault on Police

The female juvenile was charged with:
- 1 count of Resisting / Obstructing Police
- 4 counts of Assault on Police

Upon their first appearance before the Magistrates’ Court, BROWN was remanded in custody at HM Prison Windmill Hill, with the female juvenile granted bail with conditions, which included a curfew

The Gibraltar Police Federation stands in solidarity with our colleagues in Malta following the shocking incident in Ta’ Ġiorni, San Ġwann.

Our thoughts are with the injured officers, their families and all those responding to this difficult and dangerous incident.

No police officer should face violence simply for carrying out their duty to protect the public.

We wish the injured officers a full and speedy recovery and stand united with our Maltese colleagues. 🇬🇮🤝🇲🇹

The Gibraltar Police Federation welcomes yesterday’s convictions following the serious assault on one of our colleagues.

Our thoughts remain with the officer who was simply trying to assist another person whilst off duty and was subjected to a brutal and completely unacceptable attack.

No police officer should ever become the target of violence for doing what they instinctively do, helping others. Assaults on police officers, whether on or off duty, will never be tolerated.

We hope today’s outcome brings some measure of justice for our colleague and sends a clear message that those who attack police officers will be held accountable.

We would also like to acknowledge the professionalism of the Response Team officers, detectives and all those involved whose dedication ensured those responsible were brought before the courts.

The Gibraltar Police Federation stands with all our officers.

Three local men have today been convicted at the Supreme Court in connection with separate serious assaults that took place in June and October 2025.

In the first case, 22 year old Michael MARTIN, of Lime Kiln Steps, was sentenced to imprisonment for 3 years and 2 months, for the offence of Wounding with Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm, following a serious assault upon another male at a private residence in June 2025.

In the second case, 22 year old Jotham SARDEÑA of Sir William Jackson Grove, and 21 year old Marcus AGUILERA of Willis’ Road, appeared today before the Supreme Court, and were both sentenced to imprisonment for 3 years and 2 months in connection with one count of “Causing Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent and one count each of Possession of a Controlled Class B drug. Both seriously assaulted an off-duty RGP officer in the area of Ocean Village in October 2025.

A New Chapter for Gibraltar 🇬🇮

From midnight tonight, the new Treaty arrangements come into effect, marking a significant moment in Gibraltar’s history.

Whatever people’s views may be, one thing is certain, the men and women of the Royal Gibraltar Police will continue to do what they have always done: serve our community with professionalism, integrity and dedication.

For many of our officers and police staff, tonight won’t simply be about witnessing history. They’ll be at work, adapting to new arrangements, helping the public and carrying out their duties with the commitment that the people of Gibraltar have come to expect.

On behalf of the Gibraltar Police Federation, we would like to thank every officer and member of police staff who will be working during this transition. We know the extra effort that has gone into preparing for this moment, and we appreciate everything you continue to do.

The Federation will continue to stand alongside our members, supporting them and representing their interests as these new arrangements become part of everyday policing.

To everyone on duty tonight and over the coming days thank you, stay safe, and look after one another.

Yesterday, Maurice Morello Chairman of the Gibraltar Police Federation retired after serving over 24 years and four as the Chairman of the Federation.

Maurice joined the RGP in 1999 where after serving for five years on Blue Shift, was attached to the Criminal Investigation Department where he spent the following two years as a Detective.

He was later attached to Special Branch, where he performed close protection duties and as a Detective in the department.

In 2012, Maurice was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and transferred to the Neighborhood Policing Unit.

In the later years of his career he was transferred to several response teams where he performed the roles of Custody Sergeant, Patrolling Sergeant and the Crown Sergeant.

In 2016, Maurice applied for the Sergeant representative in the GPF and was successful.

In 2019 he was elected as Chairman of the Police Federation.

On speaking to Maurice he thanked everyone for the support both him and the Federation and received over the years.

He said “I would like to congratulate the newly elected Board and wish them all the best in their tenure”

We wish Maurice a happy retirement!
