Has Virgil van Dijk’s incredible Liverpool consistency gone under the radar?

At 35, Virgil van Dijk is continuing to produce the kind of consistency that has become synonymous with his Liverpool career.

According to FotMob, Van Dijk has not registered a rating below 7.0 in any of his competitive appearances this season. His Premier League average stands at 7.52, with the Liverpool captain starting all five league matches and completing every minute - 450 minutes in total.

His individual match ratings underline the consistency. Van Dijk recorded at least a 7 or more in every single performance for both club and country in 2026/27 so far.

The defensive numbers tell a similar story. In his five Premier League appearances, Van Dijk has made 41 clearances, seven interceptions and five tackles, while Liverpool have kept three clean sheets during those games.

That availability is particularly striking given his age. Van Dijk became the oldest outfield player to complete every minute of a Premier League season last campaign, surpassing John Terry’s previous record.
For a defender entering his mid-thirties, maintaining that level across club and international football is quite some achievement.

Andoni Iraola has also highlighted how the partnership around Van Dijk is developing. After Liverpool’s 1-0 win at Bournemouth, the manager said the more time the defenders spend together, “the more solid” the defensive line becomes, specifically pointing to Van Dijk, Jeremy Jacquet, Ronald Araujo and Milos Kerkez.

That assessment is reflected in Liverpool’s recent defensive record. The Bournemouth victory delivered their third consecutive Premier League clean sheet, following shutouts against Ipswich Town and Fulham.

‘Liverpool was always the right option’: Rio Ngumoha explains his Anfield move from Chelsea academy.

Rio Ngumoha’s move from Chelsea to Liverpool in 2024 was seen as a coup for the Reds, and this proved to be right, with the now 18-year-old firmly part of the first-team picture.

Speaking to ITV, Ngumoha admitted that moving to Merseyside was a no-brainer for him.

“I think there were a couple [of clubs interested] when I first left Chelsea,” Ngumoha said.

“Liverpool was always the right option – and the only option really.

“[I thought]: ‘If I go here I’ll get the opportunity and the pathway to showcase what I can do’. It looks like so far it’s paid off!”

Ngumoha is yet to sign a long-term contract with Liverpool, with his current agreement expiring in 2028. However, judging by his words, this might not be a problem for the Reds.

Heskey: Isak finally looking like his old self at Liverpool

Emile Heskey believes Alexander Isak is finally justifying his ÂŁ125 million price tag, with the Swede looking sharper after a torrid first year at Anfield marred by injuries.

“I like his movement. He’s getting chances, and creating chances,” Heskey told Rekatochklart.com. “He looks sharper now, like he was when he was at Newcastle. That comes with games, the more and more you play.”

Heskey praised Isak’s intelligent off-ball running, pointing to his assist for Cody Gakpo against Ipswich as evidence of his improving understanding with teammates.

Isak has scored four goals for Andoni Iraola’s unbeaten Liverpool this season but now faces a race to be fit for the October 11 clash with Manchester City after picking up a thigh injury on international duty, which Sweden boss Graham Potter described as minor but enough to end his camp early.

Liverpool eyeing £40m move for Mexico wonderkid Gilberto Mora — reports

Gilberto Mora has become the standout name in Mexican football. After becoming the youngest goalscorer in the history of the Aztec national team by netting the equalizer in a 1-1 draw against Colombia, the young Club Tijuana midfielder has validated the positive impressions he was already leaving in the domestic tournament, generating a stir in the international market.

His performance has not gone unnoticed in European football, where LaLiga and Premier League clubs are closely monitoring his progress.

According to reports, Liverpool is one of the teams leading the race for the young Mexican prospect. Reports indicate that the English club would be willing to prepare a formal bid of around £40 million (approximately €47 million) to secure his signing.

Meanwhile, Club Tijuana’s management has set high financial demands due to the intense interest in the player, establishing a baseline asking price of at least £30 million. Additionally, the border club intends to retain a percentage of his rights to secure future financial gains from a subsequent transfer, with his move to the Old Continent anticipated for the summer of 2027.

Bayern Munich man Tom Bischof scores first Germany ‘home’ goal of Jurgen Klopp era at Allianz Arena - Florian Wirtz plays important role

Germany were able to score their first goal in a home match in the Jurgen Klopp era when Tom Bischof gave them the lead in their 2026/27 UEFA Nations League clash against Serbia.

After dominating the majority of the early proceedings, it was the Germans who took a deserved lead in the 39th minute.

Florian Wirtz was instrumental in the goal as it was he who initially brought the ball inside the box and took a nice touch before slamming a left-footed shot into the post.

However, the ball ended up rebounding to the path of the Bayern Munich midfielder to score a simple goal from close range.

This is also Bischof’s first-ever goal scored for Germany in what is his club’s home ground, making it a moment to be proud of for the 21-year-old midfielder.

Bournemouth won’t entertain January offers for Alex Scott — BBC

According to the BBC, Bournemouth will not consider offers for Alex Scott during the January transfer window.

The 23-year-old made his senior England debut this week and will enter the final 18 months of his contract in January after rejecting two extension offers.

Scott was willing to leave Bournemouth in the summer, but the club managed to hold on to him. They remain determined to keep him until they reach their league objectives or lose any chances of doing so.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are among the clubs interested in the midfielder, with Chelsea having a ÂŁ64m bid rejected in the summer.

Bournemouth also want to keep other key players, such as Eli Junior Kroupi and Rayan, as they compete on four fronts this season.

‘That conversation with the coach could have kept me at the club, but he left it open, and I didn’t like it very much’: Fabinho on Liverpool exit.

Fabinho has revealed that he did not initially want to leave Liverpool and admitted a conversation with Jurgen Klopp played a role in his eventual departure.

The Brazilian midfielder joined Liverpool from Monaco in 2018 and spent five seasons at Anfield, making 219 appearances and winning the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

Fabinho said Liverpool had been the ideal place for him to continue developing and that he wanted to build an even greater legacy at the club.

“I didn’t want to leave the club and go to any other club in Europe. I thought it was the best place in the world to play, to keep developing as a player. I wanted my legacy and my history at the club to grow even more, but our last season was very gruelling and tiring.

“We didn’t do well and failed to qualify for the Champions League. I lost my position as a starter for a few games, but that happens.

“I came back for the following season, even though the previous one hadn’t been good, with a very good mentality and wanting to fight for the Premier League title again. But before the season started, Al-Ittihad made an offer for me and the Liverpool directors said it was very good for the club and for me.

“I was afraid and decided to wait to see what [the coaching staff] would say. I thought I was an important player and that they would refuse any offer, but I realised that the club was open to selling me.

“He [Klopp] called me and asked me what I wanted. I said that l’d heard the ofter and liked it, but that I wanted to hear from him what he thought. He said that if there are any players who want to leave, he won’t hold them back.

“It was a speech that kind of opened the door for me to leave. That conversation with the coach could have kept me at the club, but he left it open, and I didn’t like it very much,” Fabinho has said.

THE MIRACLE OF ISTANBUL (2005)

No list of Liverpool FC’s greatest moments is complete without mentioning the UEFA Champions League Final of 2005. Facing AC Milan, Liverpool trailed 3-0 at halftime. What followed was one of the most dramatic comebacks in football history.
Goals from Steven Gerrard, Vladimir Smicer, and Xabi Alonso leveled the game at 3-3, sending the match to extra time and then penalties. Goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek’s heroics in the shootout secured Liverpool’s fifth European Cup, a feat that still gives fans goosebumps.

THE “THIS IS ANFIELD” ERA (1970S AND 1980S)

The 1970s and 1980s are often referred to as Liverpool’s golden era. Under the management of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley, and Joe Fagan, the club dominated English and European football.

Winning six league titles and four European Cups during this period, Liverpool FC became synonymous with greatness. Paisley’s reign, in particular, saw Liverpool lift three European Cups, cementing their reputation as a global powerhouse.
