European Fencing Confederation The EFC is the international body charged with the promotion and development of fencing in Europe. In 2009, the EFC passed its articles of confederation.

The European Fencing Confederation (EFC) was founded on 26th October, 1991 in Vienna, Austria. Formerly established under the name “Union Européenne d’Escrime”, it was renamed into the English name a few years later. Every year the EFC organizes the European Championships, on senior, junior and cadet levels. Other goals are to promote and develop fencing in Europe, to facilitate technical collaboration between the different members, to coordinate and improve the teaching of fencing in Europe and to represent fencing to European authorities. The work in youth and veterans is exemplary. For instance, there is a cadet circuit which is unique in the world, also the EFC established a U23-European Championship to assist talented athletes not to give up the sport. There is also a championship for veterans and much more. The international body, charged with the promotion and development of fencing in Europe, consists of 42 member countries and therefore it is the continental confederation with the most active members under the authority of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) . The EFC annually applies for more than 4000 FIE-licences – that’s almost three times more than any other continental confederation. The Executive Committee elects the members of commissions and councils that deal with specialized areas like competition, veterans, promotion, referees, technical requests, training, athletes, finance, handicapped, medical and women.

Today marks the beginning of the European Week of Sport.
Sport is much more than competition.
It brings people together, creates opportunities to grow, teaches respect and discipline, and contributes to healthier and more connected communities.
This is why initiatives such as the European Week of Sport are so important.
They remind us that physical activity belongs to everyone, regardless of age, background or level of experience.
For the European fencing community, this message has a special meaning.
Every first step into a fencing club can become the beginning of a journey, one that builds confidence, friendships and values that remain far beyond the piste.
During this week, I encourage our federations, clubs, athletes, coaches and the entire fencing community to share that spirit and help more people discover the joy of being active.
There is no single way to move, participate or enjoy sport.
Find yours and your way.

It was a really productive meeting of the Referee and Competition Commissions in Budapest.
Internal and external communication were at the heart of our discussions as we identified areas for improvement to further enhance the quality of our competitions.
Keeping one key principle in mind: our most important stakeholders are the fencers. Their experience must remain at the centre of everything we do.
Time to turn ideas into action.
Together, let’s improve communication, raise standards, and create better competitions for every fencer.
Thank you to HUN federation for the hospitality.
