14-15.2hh max happy hacker on loan (or loan with view to buy).

Must be safe in all ways due to riders old injuries. Would probably suit something looking for a quieter life, hacking/fun rides, low level schooling.

Happy to manage any minor ailments but would like full disclosure. Knowledgable, experienced home and happy to provide references.

Hello 👋 I’m back after having to step back from Freelancing for a while!

I am going to reshare my posts that provide you with some information of my experience but for now I wanted to let you all know that I’m tentatively opening up some limited spaces for the following;

✨ Riding - Schooling/Exercise/Hacking ✨
✨ Competition Prep e.g Plaiting & Trimming (clipping unavailable) ✨

Please get in touch if I can be of any assistance. Freelancing Spaces are limited and only covering from Yeovil (including Halstock/East & West Coker) to Somerton

✨ I’m also considering providing Yard/Stable Management & Horse Care Consultation/Coaching (non-ridden) ✨

I’m not sure what this will look like yet but considering providing lessons or courses on horse first aid, basic nutrition, stable management and anything help with improving welfare/management of horses particularly to new owners who haven’t yet built that ever so important support team! Let me know your thoughts on this as I feel I have lots of knowledge to share!✨

They say it takes a village 🐴

*SHORT STORY* It took two of us to clip Darcy this week but he’s looking so much smarter!

*LONG STORY* Earlier this week I had out to assess Darcy as I had noticed some thickening of his fetlock. He’s such a big horse and now in his teens so I’m not going to take any chances.

Darcy was trotted up on the hard ground before and after a flexion test then lunged in the school. He wasn’t 100% sound so we had an ultrasound, it turns out the tendon sheath it enlarged but we can’t see any tears or strains.

The current plan is to put some hind shoes on and we can see if this is as a result of concussion to his soles. One week of rest then walk work before reassessing so keep your fingers crossed 🤞

I’m not overly worried yet as he’s not hopping lame and this may be something that we maintain. For now it’s cold therapy, I’m hopefully going to borrow my friends and Bute. As long as my best boy is comfy, then our competition debut can wait!

I did however make the most of the sleepy juice (despite the snoring, Steve still had to come back to top him up 🫣) and got him clipped because those feathers and his beard had me itching 😂.

Moral of the story… if something isn’t right get it checked! Horses can’t speak and I feel guilty for first thinking Darcy just had a large windgall!

🦄 Thank you for your patience 🦄

As many of you are aware, Somerset Equine has been quiet for the last couple of weeks as my personal life has been quite busy! Now that my wedding is over and I’m back from my honeymoon I am taking the day to get back to normality 🐴

I have had a few messages in the last couple of days and first of all, thank you for your enquiries ☺️ Secondly, thank you for your patience! I am not ignoring any messages and intend to get back to you all by the end of tomorrow!

It’s been full swing since I got home yesterday and I still need to unpack my car from the wedding!

🐎 The best view is between two ears 🐎 hope everyone has had a wonderful weekend! It is officially wedding week so Somerset Equine may be a bit quiet over the next couple of weeks. 🐎 About Somerset Equine (Pt 2) 🐎

🐎 So I’ve told you about my background but what skills do I have to offer?

🐎 So first of all, I genuinely enjoy mucking out! There is nothing better than knowing the horses are in a big fluffy clean bed! I’m quick and efficient at mucking out!

🐎 Second, I’m confident and capable at handling injuries and emergencies! I can provide first aid to both horses and humans. I am able to identify ailments and know when to call the vet! Whether it’s hosing a swollen hock, applying poultices or identifying signs of colic.

🐎 I am confident exercising fit competition horses, hunters and ex-racehorses. I am currently in the process of re-training my spicy ex racehorse and schooling my very green 17.2 WB X.

🐎 I have jumped up to 1m 10 previously (non-competitively) and competed at BD regionals and BYRDS U-25 championships! I spent a lot of my childhood competing at county level showing & working hunter so know the showing etiquette!

🐎 I love competition turnout especially plaiting! I’m can plait with thread or bands, clip and trim! I love the competition atmosphere whether it’s as a rider or groom! I can turnout to a high standard, whether that’s preparing the horses or just cleaning tack!

👋 Hi, I’m Jo, the face behind Somerset Equine

🐎 I’ve done a few posts recently as to the services that Somerset Equine can offer but why should you put your trust in me?

🐎 With over 25 years experience, a degree in Equine Science, BHS Stages and ownership of numerous horses & ponies over the years, it’s clear to see that horses are my absolute passion!

🐎 I’ve have experience working with horses ranging from competition horses to ex racehorses to riding school ponies (which could be like entering the shark tank at feeding times 😂).

🐎 I’ve competed from a young age, starting with pony club moving to county level showing & working hunter to British Dressage and spent a couple of days with the hounds. I’ve taken a break from competing but hoping to get out later this year and still take a keen interest in British Dressage & British Eventing.

🐎 I have two horses, Darcy & Pride, who are treated like kings and I aim to treat all my clients horses the same. All horses are cared for at a high standard as well as treated to cuddles 🥰

🐎 Equine welfare is really important to me and I hold myself to high standards. Whether I’m taking care of competition horses or a family horse, they are all treated equally.

🦄 Look at those markings! I had the pleasure of clipping Silver yesterday and he was such a good boy 🥰

🦄 Silver had previously been used for weddings so was full feathered! His owner had kindly taken off as much feather as she could but there was still so much hair 🫣
