ABOUT VICKY

The practice of yoga had been in my life since the year 2002. It was for me the same as most people who practice yoga something I did once a week that made me happy. I have to say this was the making of me to develop both physical and mental confidence. In 2015 I found the practice of Ashtanga Yoga. Again this was a huge milestone for me, as I got into the practice I felt like I was b

eing reminded of something I had forgotten rather than learning something new. I saw similarities to the discipline of a martial art too. It pulled me deeper into the world of movement practice which I now do daily. Also I found exploring other types of yoga such as Vinyasa, (which is now the style I share the most), Rocket and Yin have only fuelled the passion I have for the process of self-enquiry. The teaching came about at a point in my life where something needed to change. I had worked for about 20 years in a job that didn't suit me, always feeling like a square peg being shoved into a round hole. I kind of knew that if I didn't do something pretty drastic to change my life there would be serious consequences. Another teacher planted the seed of teaching after a class ane day and eventually I took the step and did my training. I have been qualified since November 2019. So now every day I ask the question to myself and the universe "How can I best serve?"

Progress 😊 After a difficult few weeks my body did this for me today. It’s coming, very slowly but it’s coming.

My latest YouTube video is uploaded. This time a short introduction to Vipassana meditation. I got absolutely soaked filming this and my 20 year old rain jacket failed on me. So now I’m going to have to buy a new coat 😐

This is a short guided concentration exercise. A good introduction ...

So What’s Been Going On With Me Lately?

I haven’t been super active on the socials lately so here’s a quick update.

1️⃣ I got rid of my website.
It was expensive, got no traffic, it wasn’t needed to book classes. There was literally no point, so it’s gone.
2️⃣ Spending time outdoors.
Really appreciating the sun ☀️ and warmer weather, I was very tired of being permanently cold.
3️⃣ Appreciating time with family.
If you have family appreciate them because everything can change in a heartbeat.
4️⃣ Not training my handstands.
A mixture of things going on with this. Unlike my back flexibility training where I have made considerable progress, my handstands have just not improved. I’m fed up with sore wrists. Also if I’m struggling to stack my body properly standing up due to connective tissue instability imagine how hard it is to do so balancing on my hands? 🙌🏻 I’m not saying never again, I will probably dip in but just not now.
5️⃣ Starting up my YouTube channel again.
I’m paying for the insurance so I may as well utilise it. I’m seeing it as a hobby. I’m exploring video editing, background music. All the things. I’m alternating between flows and meditations. For fun and as a way of serving humanity. Not everyone can afford to pay gym membership or studio passes.
6️⃣ Ongoing major GI issues.
This photo is taken on a small day, I can swell way bigger than that. Honestly it’s been really bad recently, it’s affected my work and is making life miserable and stressful. I barely cover for other teachers because I just don’t know how I’m going to be on the day, showing up for my own classes is hard enough. It knocks my confidence and makes me dislike my physical appearance. I currently never have a symptom free day. No light at the end of the tunnel there. The joys of a connective tissue disorder. Well I’m presuming that’s the cause.

There hasn’t been much else going on recently hence not many posts. I’m showing up the best I can both in my professional capacity and in my personal practice.

I hope everyone is doing well. 💜🙏

This was worthy of a post rather than a story. For sure I overlooked it on the last one but I’m beginning to balance in
I just wanted to make an observation, I have not been flogging away at this every day, in fact I generally only do it once a week not even that sometimes. So you don’t have to do something to death to achieve your goals. So if you are super busy, have chronic illness, or just don’t feel the need to be so repetitive you can still make progress. The biggest thing that made a difference for me was strength training, lifting those little dumbbells in the gym has really helped. Not everyone will even need to do that. I need extra support because my collagen doesn’t want to join the chat.
Or maybe it’s because I turned 46 🤔 perhaps 46 year olds are better at handstands than 45 year olds. 🤷‍♀️🤣

I’m a year in to my flexibility program with .brier.contortion
The journey to release my upper back so I don’t have to deal with so many migraines. Also it’s quite nice not to have my ears ring and see stars when I do full bridge.
Progress has been slow, but it’s happened.
I’m pleased and I just keep going.
