Padworth fishery on the river Kennet prepared today for the 16th of June.
A big thank you to Mick and Steve for braving the damp weather, and helping me to make sure our members have the pleasure of fishing the most stunning stretch of river between Newbury and Reading.
To prove the river is recovering from the recent fallow period - the ranunculus growth has reached 70% of it's maximum spread throughout the fishery.
Without this, there are no invertebrates, and subsequently, no fish. 🤞with the continual stocking of fish from the Kennet Hatchery, the river will soon return to the glory days.

This is the first swim you come to when you arrive at the Stew Pond on Epsom Common.
Today, we transported it back to how it looked 25 years ago. Unbelievably, it only took five of us 3 1/2 hours to complete. It will now be used on various dates during the summer, for our Get Fishing Events.
A massive thank you to Mick, Steve, Trevor, and David for all their help this morning.

Swim preparation started on our Speringbrook Sewer fishery in Snargate Kent.
The fishery has definitely benefited from the w**d spraying in the water last year.
Hopefully those Tench and Crucian Carp we stocked a few years ago, will start to put in more appearances now.

Work Party at our Manor Pond fishery in Cobham Surrey completed.
Many thanks go to George, Dale, Charlie, Mick, Steve, and Chris for helping me on the day.
Between us, we restored three swims, cleared the bamboo from the pathway, removed a small tree from the lake, cut down a section of overhanging tree, and removed lots of discarded fishing line and tackle.
The lake is definitely in really good condition now, for those members chasing the 30 which came out recently!
Of course, none of the above would happen without the expert baking of my partner Liz Barnes. Three delicious cakes provided on the day
Tight lines everyone.

Our Speringbrook fishery at Snargate in Kent has recently received its spring cut by a local farmer.

The sewer is also looking in much better condition after the w**d spraying last year.

The fishery will receive another grass cut just before the 16th of June. So hopefully, it will be a much more enjoyable venue to fish this year.

Some recent early season captures from our Manor Pond fishery in Cobham.

The successful angler was our Stew Pond bailff Charley. Proving that it's not all work as a bailiff - there's more than enough time to fish as well!!

A short visit to our Stew Pond fishery on Epsom Common today, with the intention of carrying out some remedial works.
It started with replacing the posts for the main fishery sign, and finished widening pathway on the left side of the big swim. The latter being long overdue!

As I was passing our Sulhamstead fishery on the river Kennet after finishing at Padworth, I popped in with the strimmer.

I managed to give about ten of the swims a quick early season cut.

Another Kennet fishery ready for the next stocking of fish from the Kennet Hatchery.

First day of two at our Padworth fishery on the river Kennet.
Thanks to a lot of help from the member Ken Swan, we now have 90% of the river accessible for the first time in 20 years.
If anyone is thinking of fly fishing for the Trout, I would wait for another few weeks to allow the river to return to it's normal level.
