📢 Important update

Due to the red extreme heat warning, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the upcoming Barn Hunt session. This is to ensure the safety and welfare of all dogs, particularly with the risk of dogs having to wait in hot cars.

All attendees have been contacted via WhatsApp with next steps regarding refunds or rescheduling options, so please check your messages.

Thank you for your understanding and support — your dogs’ welfare always comes first 🐾

🐾 What a Week of Barn Hunt Myth-Busting! 🐾

This week we’ve tackled some of the most common myths about Barn Hunt:

🐾 “It’s only for terriers.”
🐾 “My dog needs training first.”
🐾 “My dog is too old.”
🐾 “My dog is too excitable, nervous, or distracted.”
🐾 “We’ll look silly because we’re beginners.”

The truth is that Barn Hunt is enjoyed by all sorts of dogs and handlers, and one of the things I love most about it is the community that comes with it.

This reel is a little celebration of the wonderful dogs and people who have joined us over the years. From first-timers to regular attendees, confident dogs to those building confidence, every team brings something special.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted us with their dogs, cheered each other on, shared successes, and helped create such a welcoming and supportive environment.

If you’ve been following along this week and wondering whether Barn Hunt might be for you and your dog, perhaps this reel will give you a glimpse of what it’s really all about:

Having fun.
Learning together.
Building confidence.
And letting dogs do what they do best. 🐾❤️

We can’t wait to welcome both familiar faces and new ones to our upcoming workshops.

🐾 BARN HUNT MYTH #5 🐾

❌ “We’ll look silly because we’re beginners.”

Let’s be honest—trying something new can feel a bit daunting.

It’s easy to imagine that everyone else knows exactly what they’re doing, that their dogs are more experienced, and that you’ll be the only one asking questions.

But here’s the truth…

Every single person who does Barn Hunt was a beginner once.

Nobody started out knowing all the rules, understanding every search, or having all the answers. We all had a first session, a first search, and a first time wondering if we were doing it right.

The wonderful thing about Barn Hunt is that it’s not about being perfect. It’s about learning together, celebrating progress, and having fun with your dog.

Questions are welcome.
Mistakes are welcome.
Beginners are welcome.

In fact, some of my favourite moments are seeing handlers and dogs discover just what they’re capable of when they give something new a try.

So if you’ve been sitting on the fence because you’re worried about looking silly, this is your reminder that everyone starts somewhere.

The hardest part is often taking that first step. 🐾❤️

Have you ever put off trying something because you didn’t feel experienced enough? Let us know below!

🐾 BARN HUNT MYTH #4 🐾

❌ “My dog is too excitable, nervous, or easily distracted for Barn Hunt.”

Many people assume their dog needs to be perfectly behaved before trying a dog sport.

The reality? Dogs are individuals.

Some arrive bursting with enthusiasm. Some need a little time to build confidence. Some are nervous in new environments. Some are easily distracted by everything going on around them.

And that’s okay.

Barn Hunt gives dogs the opportunity to focus on something they naturally love to do—using their noses. For many dogs, searching can be incredibly rewarding and can help them build confidence and engagement in a new environment.

You don’t need a perfect dog to get started… You just need a dog.

One of the things I love most about Barn Hunt is watching dogs grow in confidence, discover new skills, and enjoy being successful at something that’s completely natural to them.

So if you’ve been thinking, “My dog’s not the sort of dog that does activities like this,” perhaps it’s time to think again. Your dog might surprise you. 🐾❤️

Tell us in the comments: what would your dog be most likely to be distracted by? 👀

🐾 BARN HUNT MYTH #3 🐾

❌ “My dog is too old for Barn Hunt.”

This is another myth I hear quite often. When people think about dog sports, they often picture young, athletic dogs racing around at top speed. But Barn Hunt is different.

Barn Hunt allows dogs to do what they do naturally—use their noses, solve problems, and work things out for themselves.

Many older dogs absolutely thrive when given the opportunity to search. They may not move as quickly as they once did, but their enthusiasm, experience, and determination can be incredible to watch.

Mental enrichment is just as important as physical exercise, and giving dogs the chance to engage their brains can be hugely rewarding at any age.

So if you’ve found yourself thinking, “My dog’s too old to try something new,” this is your reminder that learning, exploring, and having fun aren’t just for young dogs.

Sometimes our senior dogs surprise us the most. ❤️🐾

How old is your dog? Let us know in the comments—we’d love to celebrate them!

🐾 BARN HUNT MYTH #2 🐾

❌ “My dog needs lots of training before we can try Barn Hunt.”

Not at all!

One of the best things about Barn Hunt is that dogs already come equipped with the most important skill they’ll need—a nose! 👃🐾

You don’t need previous Barn Hunt experience, fancy training, or a long list of achievements before giving it a go.

Our workshops are designed to help dogs and handlers learn together. Whether you’ve done lots of dog sports or this is your very first activity, everyone starts somewhere.

In fact, watching dogs discover the game for the first time is one of our favourite parts of teaching. Seeing them work things out, gain confidence, and realise they can use their natural instincts is incredibly rewarding.

So if you’ve been waiting until you and your dog are “ready”, consider this your reminder:

You don’t have to be ready to start.
Sometimes starting is what helps you become ready.

🐾 Questions are welcome.
🐾 Beginners are welcome.
🐾 First-timers are welcome.

We’d love to see you there!

🐾 BARN HUNT MYTH #1 🐾

❌ “Barn Hunt is only for terriers.”

This is probably the most common myth I hear—and it’s simply not true!

While Barn Hunt was inspired by the traditional work of terriers, today’s sport is open to dogs of all breeds, shapes, sizes, and backgrounds.

In fact, one of my favourite things about Barn Hunt is seeing the variety of dogs that get involved. From tiny dogs to giant breeds, working dogs to companion dogs, pedigrees to crossbreeds—dogs of all kinds can enjoy searching, problem-solving, and using their incredible noses.

The most important thing isn’t your dog’s breed. It’s whether they enjoy sniffing, exploring, and having fun.

If you’ve ever thought, “My dog isn’t the right type for Barn Hunt,” this is your reminder that you don’t need a terrier to get started.. You might just be surprised by what your dog can do. 🐾

What breed is your dog? Let us know in the comments!

🐾 BARN HUNT MYTH-BUSTING WEEK 🐾

Over the years, I’ve heard all sorts of reasons why people think Barn Hunt isn’t for them or their dog…

The truth is, many of these concerns are based on myths that stop people from discovering a sport their dogs could absolutely love.

So this week, I’ll be tackling one common Barn Hunt myth each day and sharing what I’ve learned from working with dogs of all breeds, ages, and personalities.

If you’ve ever been curious about Barn Hunt but weren’t sure whether it was right for you and your dog, keep an eye on the page this week—you might be surprised!

And who knows… this could be the sign you’ve been waiting for to give it a go. 🐀 🐾❤️

🐾 Intermediate Barn Hunt Workshop 🐾

What a fantastic day with our Intermediate Barn Hunt group!

Most of these teams have attended before, and it has been wonderful to see how much their skills, confidence, and teamwork continue to develop. The progress everyone is making is truly impressive, and each workshop builds on the last.

A special welcome to Kathy and Bella, who joined the group for the first time. You both did amazingly well, and the improvement between each run was incredible to watch. What a fantastic achievement!

We also had some exciting discussions about planning a fun Barn Hunt UK trial in September. Further details will be shared soon, so keep an eye out for updates.

Thank you to everyone for your enthusiasm, support, and willingness to keep challenging yourselves and your dogs. It was a real success, and we thoroughly enjoyed spending the day with you all.

And while you’re looking through the photos, see if you can spot our newest (and youngest!) spectator… a future Barn Hunt champion in the making! 😊🐾

We can’t wait to see what you achieve next! 🐀🐾
