It was a tough morning today for everyone. We knew we were in for a real physical battle, and that proved to be the case. We took the lead against the run of play, with a fantastic goal. Some brilliant work down the right from Caids and a superb cross that was met with a great finish from Noah T.
We were then put under lots of pressure by Millmoor, who were throwing the ball into the box at every opportunity. We couldn't deal with the physical threat and quickly went 2-1 behind.
The lads managed to get back into the game through a fantastic strike from Charlie, and we were happy to go in at the break at 2-2. The 2nd half started much like the first, with us being under pressure and Millmoor using their physicality to put us under real pressure from set pieces. Caleb made some great saves to keep us in the game, but Millmoor took the lead, when we failed to clear the ball and an excellent finish, put them 3-2 ahead. Millmoors 4th goal came from the penalty spot and the game ended 4-2.
Millmoor deserved the win today, and we now have to look to bounce back next week.

We were at home again this week after a week off, with Rawmarsh St Josephs the visitors; despite the windy conditions at the Windsor Foodservice Stadium, it was a game we went into as favourites based on current league standings
We set-up with our customary 4-2-3-1 formation with the instructions to keep the ball on the floor, play through the midfield to try and keep control in the difficult conditions.

St Joseph's started fast though, and Caleb pulled off a sharp save in the 1st minute as we immediately looked sloppy in possession – it became very clear from early on that our opposition would be going long regardless, bypassing their midfield with their keepers’ long kicks and would commit numbers forward – a brave tactic but one that meant they had a number of chances as we struggled to get hold of the game. We looked to play football in spells, but we were wasteful and were rushing under the constant pressing – this did give us one or two opportunities when our midfield found themselves in acres of space, but almost shocked at the space they had we failed to create anything meaningful other than a few attempts from distance. Rawmarsh continued to look dangerous and took the lead midway through the first half from a pot shot from distance that looped over Caleb into the roof of the net.
We came in at half time 1-0 down, with Caleb to thank that it wasn't 2 or 3 with a couple of outstanding saves, and there was clear frustration from both players and coaches that we weren’t at out best but at least had another 40 minutes to put it right.

The second half produced some better football and we started to dominate possession, but Rawmarsh were still dangerous on the counter. We created a few shooting opportunities from distance but struggled to create anything clear cut. Our equaliser did come though when Noah Taylor capitalised on a corner, that their keeper failed to get hold of, to turn and volley home. We continued to push and in fairness, so did Rawmarsh with their direct approach, but we managed to take the lead when their keeper couldn’t get a strong enough hand to a great strike from around 25 yards out from Alfie Barlow.

In difficult conditions though, the game was far from over and Rawmarsh pushed to get themselves back in the game with almost constant long balls and we couldn’t get complete control. Their late equaliser came when they broke quickly and found their striker clean through on goal to smash the ball past Caleb, who in fairness, hadn’t put a foot wrong all game.

The game finished 2-2, which was probably a fair result, but a frustrating game for all and one we’ll need to put out of our minds going into the final 6 games of the season. We all know we’re capable of a much better performance and will have the chance to show it straight away next week, away to Nether Green.
Man of the match went to Caleb for a faultless performance, he could do nothing about the two goals and showed excellent handling throughout in difficult conditions and what felt like a constant barrage of long balls into the box to deal with.

The boys were back at home today after a good performance away from home last week. Athersley Rec were the visitors, and despite their league position, we knew they would pose a physical threat at the very least with a number of good players on the pitch. We started with our normal formation and asked for the right attitude from the start and no complacency, given these are games that we need to take 3 points from if we want to stay in the title race.

We started well and in the first couple of minutes Leyts found Leo Heathcote on the right of the box who tested the keeper early on. As the game settled it was clear their game plan was to go direct and look to cause a physical threat and at times, they looked dangerous through their big number 9, but our defence held firm with Cass putting in a number of strong challenges early in the game. We looked to play football to counter that threat but were guilty of going too direct ourselves and were often wasteful in possession. We did create a number of chances though, George, who was becoming a danger down the left as their defence backed off, found himself through on goal after a great forward run but his chance went over the bar. A well delivered corner from Ethan went through everyone when it looked like someone would get a simple finish and numerous shots at goal were either straight at the keeper or flashed wide. Leyton eventually opened the scoring around 25 minutes in with a customary stylish finish into the roof of the net from the edge of the box on his left foot, but shortly after it was 1-1 when some lax play in the middle of the pitch gave their big central midfielder a clear shot on goal which he took on leaving Caleb no chance in goal. 1-1 at half time and it was no more than we and Athersley deserved.

At half time we asked for calmness in possession and much less direct passing as we were being dragged into an unnecessarily physical and scrappy game when we were clearly by far the better footballing side. The second half performance was then arguably some of the best football we’ve played and we created chance after chance through some great combination play and it was pretty much one way traffic with Caleb in goal a passenger for long spells. Leo H and Jack were causing problems from wide positions, Ethan and Charlie were controlling the midfield and building well and Sam and Noah T looked dangerous running in behind.

After some great trickery and combination play between Jack and Charlie down the left, Charlie found himself with a 1v1 and squeezed the ball through the keeper, with Sam then finishing from a yard out, only for the goal to be harshly ruled out for offside. A Will Maguire corner was then met by Ethan at the back post but his header found the side netting. It was only a matter of time though and our second came when Sam Proctor found himself in space around 25 yards out and hit a great strike into the roof of the net, 2-1, and we asked for more of the same. Chances continued to come, Noah T fired a ball across the box which we just couldn’t get on the end of and Leo H was unlucky with a couple of efforts. Our third came though when Noah T was released down the right and did brilliantly to beat his man, get to the byline and then pull back for Leo H to finish calmly from inside the area.

The game finished 3-1 but the performance and response in the second half perhaps deserved more and in reality, on another day, it could have been 7 or 8.

A number of good performances today, Leo H was a constant threat down the right and Jack equally so down the left, Charlie is starting to get back to his best after injury, Ethan controlled the game from CDM and helped us keep possession for long spells and our entire defence held firm and matched them physically throughout, but MotM this week went to captain Leo Cassidy for a solid performance, continually driving the team forward and keeping their dangerous number 9 quiet!

Well done boys!

What an incredible morning and a
game that had everything. It was always going to be a hard fought game, and it certainly proved to be. The first half was very tight, with few clear cut chances. Our defence looking very solid until Bramley scored mid way through the first half and the referee cancelled it out for offside. It was a harsh decision and one we got away with. The rest of game the officiating was very poor (to say the least). Some decisions were just mind boggling and the game started to get very heated, with players, coaches and spectators all finding decisions difficult to accept. We went in 0-0 at half time.
We seemed to get on top at the start of the 2nd half, with Alfie winning the battle from midfield, doing an excellent job at CDM and winning possession back for us.
We struck first after some great work from Leighton and Jack finishing off superbly at the back post. Bramley then nearly equalised after a superbly hit free kick looked destined for the top corner before Caleb made a fantastic save.
We then invited pressure on and Bramley scored from a good corner that we just didn't attack. The game looked like finishing 1-1 before drama in the last couple of minutes. Bramley broke through and scored what looked to be the certain winning goal.
In the dying minutes Leo H flicked a great ball through for Leighton to finish and rescue a point, which was throughly deserved. The lads showed massive character and desire to keep fighting especially as it seemed the referee was just getting most things wrong. In the end 2-2 was a fair result and a game neither side probably deserved to lose. Noah D was sent off in the goal celebration's at the end and will be a huge loss over the coming weeks. We couldn't single anyone out today as everyone gave everything and there were probably 5 or 6 candidates for man of the match.
We are massively proud today of the lads.
Well done boy's 👏 🟡⚫️

League action again this week for the boys, away against Thorncliffe in freezing temperatures, constant rain, a cross wind and a boggy grass pitch – a far cry from the perfect surface at home and conditions that made for a potentially scrappy game.

We started well and looked for more direct routes forward given the conditions and around 5 minutes into the game we were rewarded when a great cross from Leo Heathcote from the right wing was met with a precision header from Noah Taylor – 1-0. The game turned very scrappy as predicted though and our more technical players in midfield couldn’t play their normal game - Jack pounced well onto a loose ball though but his strike went just wide when looking to make it 2-0. We gave away a few needless free kicks which gave Thorncliffe the opportunity to go direct, but our defence dealt well with anything thrown into the box and Caleb remained untroubled in goal. We were looking dangerous going forward, but our final ball wasn’t quite coming off on a surface that was difficult to read. We did have several chances to add to the scoreline in the first half, particularly a close-range header for George, from a wicked corner delivery from Ethan, that flashed over the bar - however, we came in at half time 1-0 up - in control but wanting that second goal.

The second half became one way traffic, with Caleb in goal having to jog back and forth across the pitch to keep warm. We had to wait for another 15 minutes or so for our second though – Alfie Barlow picked up the ball in the CDM position and found Leyton with a pinpoint through ball in the left channel who finished with real composure over the onrushing keeper. The floodgates started to open and our third soon followed when Noah Taylor was found in space around 15 yards out and finished well into the bottom corner with pretty much his first touch after being reintroduced 30 seconds earlier. Our fourth came when we were given a free kick around 40 yards out and over to the left-hand side, Alfie stepped up and delivered a curling ball towards the back post that deceived their back line and the goalkeeper to go straight in. Noah Taylor then completed his hat trick when reacting first to a loose goal kick, taking a great touch out of his feet to finish with aplomb to the onrushing goalkeepers’ right-hand side and into the side netting. We almost added a sixth when Leyton found Will with another great through ball, but his cross-shot flashed just wide.

Thorncliffe did get a goal themselves with their only real chance of the half when a hopeful punt forward landed kindly for their striker in the box to finish well. Disappointing to not keep a clean sheet but at 5-1 we were comfortable and at this point both sides were just waiting for the final whistle to end the torture of the freezing rain! It came soon after and although it won’t go down as a classic, it was a professional performance that we just had to grind out and get the result, without playing lets of nice football.

There were a few good individual performances, Keaton Bellwood was faultless in the back line, playing in pretty much every position at some point, George was strong and determined, despite playing with a hand injury, Sam put a great shift in with lots of ground covered in the number 10 role, winning pretty much all of his 50-50s and it was great to see Charlie Benson back on the grass with an equally great shift on his journey back to fitness. Man of the match though goes to Noah Taylor, absolutely ruthless in front of goal, brilliant hold up play and a very well-deserved hat trick!

The boys go to Bramley next week for an important top of the table clash! 💪

The boys were back in league action today after what seemed like an eternity off for the Christmas break, at home to Hillsborough Pumas, who would be a tough test with some good individual players, particularly going forward.
We started with our customary 4-2-3-1 to control the ball and the middle of the pitch, knowing that our opposition would look to mainly play direct and, on the counter, and also deploy our full backs more as wing backs to get forward and support our attacking play.

We came out of the blocks well and around 5 minutes in Cass found Will Maguire in the box and his sublime touch and volley into the top corner from around 15 yards put us 1-0 up. We were almost immediately pegged back to 1-1 though when some sloppy play from us allowed their dangerous striker to get on the ball from a long forward pass and finish well into the bottom corner. After a few minutes of scrappy play we started to settle back into a rhythm and look dangerous again – Will Maguire was having a great game down the left, terrorising their full back, Ethan and Alfie were generally controlling the midfield well, Sam was bullying their defence and making it really difficult for them to settle and our defence dealt well with the threat of any long balls with Caleb also well positioned and faultless in sweeping up behind the back four.

We were getting quite a few chances and looked particularly dangerous from corners with some outstanding deliveries causing the Hillsborough defence plenty of problems. It was indirectly from a corner that our second came, when Leo Heathcote intercepted their attempt of a quick counterattack and fired the ball into the roof of the net from around 25 yards out – another great strike and those two moments of quality were what gave us the lead at half time.

The ask was for more of the same in the second half and a higher press when they look to play out from the back to really put them under pressure. The second half became pretty one sided, with lots of possession and more chances but the third goal seemed to take a while to arrive. It came from another good corner delivery that Hillsborough didn’t deal with, and the loose ball fell to Leo Cassidy around 12 yards out, who hit a controlled side foot volley past the keeper – 3-1. We continued to test Pumas’ resilience, whose heads had started to drop, and our fourth came from an undefendable Will Maguire corner, which went in off one of the Hillsborough defenders. Our forward players Noah Taylor, Noah Dolby and Leyton were starting to see more of the ball and chances were coming – Noah T had a great chance to make it 5 but was denied by a strong save, our fifth did come though when Leyton dribbled his way into the box from left wing and finished calmly on his right foot.

The game finished 5-1 and was comfortable in the end – Hillsborough definitely had their moments, with some tricky individuals and fast breaks, but this was a strong performance from our boys, considering the long break and freezing temperature. We’ll look to build on this result now and make a real assault on getting to the top of the table as we as coaches have no doubt that when we play to our potential, there isn’t a team in this league that can compete with us.

Man of the match today was shared between Will Maguire, who their right back will be having nightmares about tonight and was a constant threat throughout, and Ethan Gilham who played a big role in controlling the midfield, switching the ball well, and worked tirelessly to get back and help the defence when needed.
