Isle of Wight Home Tournament 🐺🧡🏉
Wolves were back on home soil for an exciting day of touch rugby, bringing together a squad made up of three new players, others in their first season experienced teammates. With strong support from the local community, the atmosphere reflected the growing spirit of women’s rugby on the Isle of Wight.
After four weeks of focused training, the impact of our drills was clear to see. Defensive structure, communication, and teamwork were at the heart of every game, helping us put in some fantastic performances across the tournament.
A brilliant start saw Wolves take on Farnborough RFC, securing a 2–1 win with two excellent tries setting the tone early.
Next up against Andover - traditionally top of the table - Wolves showed incredible resilience. A tough match ended in a narrow 1–0 loss, but the defensive effort across the team was outstanding.
A fun and slightly different fixture followed against Hampshire Barbarians, a mixed side from across the tournament. Wolves made the most of the opportunity, running out 3–0 winners and using the game to build confidence and develop skills.
The match against Wi******er was a true test of determination, ending in a 1–1 draw. Strong defence and a well-earned try highlighted the team’s balance and work rate.
In the final game against New Milton, It was a close contest, but New Milton edged it 3–2 with a late try in the final minutes of the game.
Throughout the tournament, the influence of the Women’s Six Nations was clear inspiring intensity, teamwork, and ambition in every performance. Hosting at home made the day even more special, with fantastic support reinforcing the sense of community behind women’s rugby on the island.
Overall Wolves finished 4th in the tournament. A day full of progress, determination, and teamwork - Wolves continue to grow stronger together 🐺🧡🏉
