Happy International Women’s Day 💜

This year’s theme is ‘give to gain’- how we can give more to collectively help women gain. I’ve been so fortunate in my career to have many other women support me and offer help, enabling me to push forward and develop, for which I am so grateful.

It was a privilege to be invited to speak on the panel for the event hosted by on Friday. The event was held at the incredible West Midlands Air Ambulance charity where we learnt so much about the outstanding work the critical care team deliver 👏

Thank you for having me! I loved every minute of the day ☺️

How often do you find yourself stuck procrastinating on something important, like applying for a new role? 💭

When there are high stakes, our brains are really good at focusing on what could go wrong; rejection, not feeling ready or even making the wrong move.

This is when the procrastination sets in, often followed by feeling frustrated with ourselves for wasting time not doing what we need to do.

Two tools I use with clients to help them move forward:
1️⃣ REFRAMING: Instead of thinking of what could go wrong, ask yourself 'what might I learn if I try?' or 'what stays the same if I don't try?'. These questions can help us shift our thinking in the right direction.

2️⃣ SIMPLIFY: When looking at all the stuff we need to do with a job application, it can feel overwhelming. Set 10 minutes on a timer and just focus on downloading the document and jotting down a few bullet points.

Momentum comes after action, so taking small actions is the best way to overcome the procrastination and get moving forward.

I work with many capable, driven people who feel stuck and hold themselves back. Once they take one small step, everything seems a little easier.

Hope this helps 💡

The best kind of Monday morning! 💪

Kicking off the week with lots of fun at RedPoint rock climbing in Worcester with the Business Club! 🧗🏻‍♀️

Every single one of us made it to the top- multiple times! Proving to ourselves we can all step outside of our comfort zones every now and then to reach a new outcome!

Loved it. Thank you to and for holding the ropes tightly and all the encouragement- what a team we were! 🙌😁

was a fantastic leader! For anyone looking at team development activities, take a look at Nathan’s page.

Meet cartoon Jess 🌟😁

Love this AI trend! This picture really captures what I love most about my work: listening deeply, asking great questions, lots of coffee… and helping people grow 🌱

Through Jessica Shields Coaching Ltd, I support individuals and organisations with:
🔹 1–1 coaching
🔹 Group coaching
🔹 Coaching skills training (for leaders and managers)
🔹 Mental Health First Aid training, helping workplaces create supportive cultures around mental wellbeing

If any of this resonates or you’re curious about how coaching or training can support you or your organisation, I’d love to chat (probably over a coffee!) ☕️

Last week was a busy one! If I’m honest it feels like 2026 so far has been non stop (in the best way!). So here’s some mid-week appreciation for the ‘little things’ ✨

Saturday morning walk- spending a good couple of hours out in fresh air was the perfect reset on Saturday after a busy week. Yes it was a bit grey and rained for the majority of the time I was out! But I felt so much clearer when I got back home. It’s my favourite way to apply self-care 🥾

Friday pizza lunch- I delivered day 2 of a Mental Health First Aid programme for dental practitioners at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester on Friday and we were lucky enough to have individual pizzas provided for our lunch! What a treat 😍 they certainly kept us going for the rest of the afternoon!

And to top it off some lovely feedback from a learner on the course:
“Jess was great at delivering the knowledge and approachable, answered questions very well and was excellent overall.” 💚

If you’re having a busy week, this is your reminder to slow down for a moment and notice the good stuff ☺️

Lovely lunch time together with Katie Hitchinson delivering our webinar on ‘The Role of Empathy in Trauma-informed Leadership’ 💻

Great to see so many people join the session and spend their lunchtime learning with us!

We shared insights on:
🔹 Empathetic responses for typical stressful situations
🔹 Tips for regulating ourselves when feeling stressed
🔹 How to balance empathy with accountability
🔹 The ‘Window of Tolerance’ model

Being a manager comes with a lot of responsibility and we can often find ourselves wearing many hats. How do you bring empathy into your role as a manager?

Also if this topic is of interest to you, we have recorded the session. So, if you’d like a copy of the recording please drop me a message and I will send that out to you!

🔹 Levels of listening and how to adapt our listening to different scenarios
🔹 Coaching questions- what words to use to help open up our coachee’s thinking
🔹 A coaching tool to facilitate exploration around our goals and how to move forward

Thank you Jeni Sellick for hosting! For anyone looking at room hire locally, has everything you need and they really do look after you from start to finish.

And thank you Kate Hollingsworth (sorry won’t let me tag you!) for your photography throughout the session- can’t wait to see your snaps! 📸

Huge thank you to Rob McDowell for inviting me along to share insights and support around ‘Workplace Wellbeing’ 💚

Having a room full of people open to wellbeing conversations and actively sharing how they take care of their mental wellbeing was just fabulous. A real showcase of how mental health stigma in the workplace is shifting. Thank you everyone for participating ☺️

“I would highly recommend the course to anyone who is interested. It has been hugely insightful for me and I know will make a significant impact on my ability to support staff.” 💬 (Mental Health First Aid learner, January 2026)

How do you support your staff’s wellbeing?

I think there are many great initiatives businesses can implement (EAP’s, wellbeing education, awareness days). Alongside these, how well equipped are your staff in supporting their colleagues and teams?

Checking in with our staff might sound like:
🌟 It’s been a busy period, how have you been managing?
🌟 I know I’d benefit from a quick break right now, fancy grabbing a coffee together?
🌟 I’ve noticed you’re not your usual self, I’m here to listen, if you need it.

Asking simple questions and showing you’re there to listen can make the world of difference 🌍

Brilliant two days of Mental Health First Aid training over in Burton-upon-Trent last week for the John Taylor Multi Academy Trust 💚

With so many brilliant staff in the room who have daily conversations around mental health and wellbeing with young people, parents and staff, we covered many important topics to ensure they were equipped with the knowledge and skills to keep their schools mentally well.

What a joy it was to work with so many empathetic and compassionate people! Thanks everyone for your contributions 👏
