#3: Your glutes do more than you think

๐Ÿƒ Running Matters

If you've ever struggled with knee pain, ITB syndrome, shin splints or even recurring calf injuries...

Don't just look at where it hurts.

Often the answer is higher up.

Your glute muscles help control your pelvis and leg every time your foot hits the ground.

When they're not working efficiently, other tissues have to work much harder.

That doesn't mean stronger is always better.

As a physio, I'm interested in how well your muscles work together, your running technique and whether your body can cope with the demands you're placing on it.

Good rehabilitation isn't about fixing one painful area.

It's about helping your whole body move more efficiently.

Small changes really can keep you running for longer.

Happy running! ๐Ÿƒ

#2: More miles isn't always the answer

๐Ÿƒ Running Matters

One of the biggest myths I hear is...

"If I want to improve, I just need to run more."

Actually, your body gets stronger when it has the capacity to cope with the miles you're asking it to do.

That's where strength training makes such a difference.

Just two short strength sessions each week can help improve running efficiency and reduce the risk of many common injuries.

It doesn't have to mean spending hours in the gym.

Simple exercises focusing on your hips, glutes, calves and core can make a huge difference.

As a physio, I love helping runners build resilience, not just recover from injuries.

Healthy runners are consistent runners.

What's your favourite distance to run?

#1 Pain isn't always the end of your running journey

๐Ÿƒ Running Matters

As a physiotherapist, I see so many runners who think pain means they have to stop running forever.

I understand that feeling.

A few years ago, I had to stop running because of persistent ITB (Iliotibial Band) syndrome. It was frustrating, especially when all I wanted to do was get back out there.

What got me running again wasn't endless stretching or complete rest.

It was improving my strength, control and movement through Pilates, alongside the right rehabilitation programme.

Now I love helping other runners stay active and get back to doing what they enjoy.

Pain doesn't always mean you have to stop. Sometimes it means your body is asking for a different approach.

Over the next few weeks I'll be sharing simple tips to help runners stay healthy, reduce injuries and keep enjoying their miles.

Have you ever had an injury that stopped your running? I'd love to hear your story below. ๐Ÿ‘‡
